How can I get an extra key? I do have the original, but would like an extra

I live near Seattle WA

I tried to search the forum but it tells me it can’t search the work Key!

And use google for searches. The forum won’t allow three-letter words like key, stupidly.
I ordered a few from Keys4Classics, they came quickly and worked perfectly.

- BMW - you can order new keys for your locks (need - Proof of ownership / Key code, should start with GC, off of your original to the car from BMW key
Hmm - that's interesting. I have three keys for my coupe, but don't see any numbers on them. I've had them since 1989 when I got the car, but they could be duplicates that a previous owner had made. One key is labeled something like "ERREBI", the other two say "SILCA" (neither say "Pembra" - would factory keys be labeled that way?). All these keys have circular, black, plastic grips.

The keys4classics site has you take photos and send them in if your keys don’t have a key code. They actuslly ask for photos even if you do have a number so that they can confirm it’s correct.

I was thinking the one with the round head was a valet key

Pretty sure Santa Monica Lock and Key will source keys for you (not Pebra) and make the keys. Not sure if they want your actual key or just a photo.

I have one key with me here (there is another in the car, which is not here), how can I tell if the key I have here is the valet key or not? I don't want to send them photos and have a valet key made

I believe there should be 7 dots for the main keys. One less for Valet? Please, someone correct me if I am wrong. Sidenote, I am also in Kirkland WA! Would love to connect at some point. You should come to our cruise/meet down the way in Woodinville in July!

I will try and make the July thing, send me a DM, I hope someone is certain about the key

Be aware that Mercedes of similar vintage also used dimple keys, so contacts in that world might help. I got a duplicate key years ago from Salz Lock and Key, here in Honolulu. The size and spacing of the dimples are the "key" to how our keys are cut (or drilled), but I've forgotten the way they are coded. I think there are three sizes of dimples, and they can occur in three rows(?) so there aren't an unlimited number of combinations but combinatorial math was something I successfully avoided. It's also possible that I'm almost completely out of my tree.

This pic explains how to determine which key is a master key and which is a valet key:

The valet key below fully slides into the door (and ignition) lock, whereas the master key leaves a space of 5mm.

thanks, and it looks like the master has 7 holes and the valet 6, for some reason I thought they had different shaped heads, like square and round so you could tell them apart, but maybe the valet don't have the plastic cap, that is the case in your example
