so i checked with several places - BMW (NLA). looked on fcpeuro, remeuropean + autohausaz ... and none of them have discs. not even another manufacturer ... no ATE, zimmerman, xyz ... nada. front + rear ventilated for 3.0cs as well as 633csi
so what are people using?

i know they are, but who wants to play with tariffs.

here's another question - e12 based e24 ... the front protection plates are the same part number as the 3.0cs ... the front discs are 8mm bigger 280 x 22 instead of 272 x 22. anybody tried the slightly bigger discs? (mind you its only marginally bigger - 8mm diameter)

Are you talking about the rotors as disks? I have a stock set off of Sixto a 1974 CS that I don't have any use for. I can send pictures if that's what you need. Sixto has drilled and slotted rotors that are after market, new and I bought a long time ago. If you're interested I can go through my build book and find the source. They may not make those anymore.

i really need rears, since my car is a 2800cs it has drums. i've got everything i need, except rear rotors and protection plates. i have a used sets that came with the swingarms, but i would rather get new. the protection plates are beat up.

i thought about getting drilled rotors, but not sure.
 
going back to the early e24 front rotors (280 x 22) - W+N has them for 57.1 euro each and the 3.0cs 272 x 22 is 109.2 euro or the drilled for 134.41 euro. its not much bigger, but i am already using early e24 calipers and the protection plates are the same. at 57 euro for fronts, that more than pays the shipping and any tariff.

anybody have any thoughts / experience (good or bad) with this idea? so who has ordered lately and what kind of tariff have you been hit with? 15% or 50% has UPS still been sticking it to us on fees?
 
The UPS response is still all over the map. I have had some recent shipments be of correct tariff, and as mentioned in a previous post I did recently receive a refund check from UPS for $400, which is less than I have paid them but no invoice to state how they arrived at this number, but just this week by son got a 50% tariff bill for a $200 watch he ordered from Japanese seller on Ebay when HTS code would have suggested about a 15% tariff.
 
Scott, I know that e12 calipers which should be the same as early e24 have a different offset than the e9 calipers, meaning they are either more inboard or outboard than stock. Be sure to measure them relative to the strut mount.
 
in looking at the tariff schedule <revision 8> 2026

section 8708.30.50 - brake parts for cars = rates of duty (as long as they aren't made in China or the Russian Federation)
duty 1 = 2.5%
duty 2 = 25%
ups fee = ?

all calc'd in euro (4 rotors + 2 rear protection plates)
so for 545.88 euro of parts (with inexpensive e24 rotors)
tariff of 177.62 euro
UPS freight = 49 euro <from W+N>
sub -total = 872.5 euro = $1012.10 and then there is the ups fee on top.

i know i can buy the rear protection plates from getbmwparts.com for $207.64 ea. and when you compare W+N at 140 euro ($162) plus 27.5% tariff $51.81 plus shipping ... i will buy them in this country. now just to find decent rotors in the USA.

hmmm ... i hadn't heard that one ... i bought them from @Bert Poliakoff a while back ... i have them all boxed up and ready to go to USPS. they would have been in the mail already if the post office hadn't closed early. i guess i will unpack them and measure before i send them off to be rebuilt. the rear calipers are the same on the 3.0cs and the 633csi
 
Looks like the rotors are on sale this week at W&N. With the 5% discount offer also this week perhaps the pricing is a bit more favorable?
