Ah, good to know. I reused my old cap so didn’t need those parts. Nice find. I feel like every part is a hunt for the one shop that has just the right version…

okay - new topic

i am running an injected engine m30 b34 (euro) with megasquirt and C tube intake. i have a USA air filter housing for the e28 / e24 ... part number 13711271582 - standard stuff. i know there are people using the CSi air filter housing ... would love to find one but they are very expensive and you have to have the mount ... and my car is already painted ... so not going there.

in looking at things, i noticed that there are different part numbers for the e24 / e28 housing between the EU and USA. the EU part number is 13711271270 - filter is the same but the snap clips are different between the two. so other than the pattern on the top of the housing being slightly different ... i'm really curious what the difference is. anybody know?

so ... here's the other question - are there any other options for air cleaner housings? i remember seeing a more linear approach instead of covering part of the valve cover ... perhaps @bdigel? maybe e34 or e32

Original style has wire clips, haven’t seen the second one

Hmmm. I have one hose bracket with its opening at the bottom holding the fuel line feeding to the fuel filter and another directly above it with the opening upwards holding some of the wiring heading from battery to firewall
Pictures a bit hard to interpret, sorry / lots of stuff in there
Yellow zinc harness clips face upwards, you have more work to do lol!

I did install the plastic e32/ 34 airbox/ filter housing in the fjord blue coupe I just finished I thought it looked nice and customer likes it

So since we were talking about the engine bay and I was playing around with ChatGPT to create my different wheel look the other day, I decided to ask it to identify the perfect E9 engine bay. It started off pretty well:

Even included a picture of a “well-done” one, but here’s where things started to go a bit awry…

It then suggested it could make a photo-annotated image of correct and incorrect. Sure why not? I know it’s somewhat passé at this point to laugh at AI’s failures, but as usual it’s impressive how it can start off so well and then quickly go off the rails
