Background: I want to change my CS interior to "CSL style" with Scheel bucket seats etc. After searching for a long time I now have a Scheel 100 (first picture) and a 101 (second picture) in great original condition. I thought that the 101 type was identical to 100 except for the backrest adjustment feature. But putting one next to the other shows small differences in design. As seen in the pictures the 101 has rounder shoulders and fatter sides. The 101 is also missing a seam at hip height. Type 100 is slightly taller (third picture). I'm 99% sure that the seats have never been re-upholstered.
Now I'm hesitating, shall I start searching for one more seat or just leave it as is? Aaaargh, luxury problem!
If anyone with experience (or owning both type of seats) can confirm/deny my findings I'd appreciate that. Thanks!

PS! Someone told me that the Batmobile came with type 101 for driver and 100 for passenger. Is that really true? I doubt it. From old pictures I'm not able to determine that.

I’d say that the 100 is newly done but the 101 is original. You can see it on the 101’s vinyl, more structured than what’s now available. I had some original seats too and the vinyl was like on the 101.
Insignificant as it might be.

Hi, while reading here in the forum I stumbled over this old thread.
I can totally confirm your findings, Nils. My pair of a 100 and 101 is looking exactly the same from the extra seams on the 100 to the slightly different type of vinyl. I don't think that your seats have been upholstered yet. Sure my answer is a bit late, but it might answer upcoming questions.
Best René

Hi @Renni,

It can be pretty tricky to find a matching set of
scheels. Excluding the ASS versions, there are at least four versions of the scheel 101. I’m not sure how many versions of the 100 exist, but it is safe to presume that there are a handful of variants. I’ve been told by a Scheel expert that the city packs often came with wider seats. I haven’t attempted to confirm.

Of the 101’s that I know about:
  • Lever recline - no triangle seam
  • Wheel recline - no triangle seam
  • Wheel recline - vinyl triangle seam
  • Wheel recline - fabric triangle seem
Mine are both 101’s, and seem to match your 101 in the shoulders. The one on the left looks smaller but it is just further back and angled outward. These would be bullet #2 above. I would like to have a passenger 100 but I count my blessings that these seats sourced from two different German sellers match. The downside is that I will have a recline handle facing the door on the driver’s side if I am unable to swap the dial.

The 1974 batmobile brochure highlights bullet #4 above. I’ve captured pics of the other styles, but I wasn’t focusing on the shoulder differences.

Another thing to watch out for. The scheel 114 found in the Porsche 914 looks like you could just swap the headrest. The seat is however more narrow, and potentially more upright (I think but can’t recall). The panels on the 114 have seems in different spots. The lower back panel is taller. In general however, the 114 is shaped more like the 101.

I have a scheel 100 question and thought I’d post here rather than starting a new thread.

I have an original scheel 100 in the standard vinyl (or leather? And corduroy trim, I have been searching for a matching seat.

both seats will be retrimmed so trim doesn’t matter, but the seat base should be the same!

So I found this one for sale, it’s completely corduroy, I haven’t seen that before but it looks original?

is it the same seat with different trim?
Any differences I should be aware of?
Appreciate any input. Thanks!

Hi James,
the declared expert on Scheels‚ is undoubtedly @Gerrit. Send him a pm. My 2 Cents worth is, the Scheel 100 with Vinyl (never leather) is quite different to the ASS (no pun intended) seats which although they look similar in shape, were never officially used/ installed in a Csl from the factory. But being a jack of a few trades and Master of none, let the true experts speak ;)

¡Buenas tardes!

Hi @xavier sarda,

One benefit of the Scheel 101’s is that you can get them new from Scheel again. If you factor in any upholstery work their price is very competitive. The 101 just barely reclines so don’t put to much emphasis on the capability.

BMW offered the 101 as an option, but I’ve only seen that in the 1974 brochure. It may have been an earlier option. Honestly when getting used seats, the emphasis should be on the condition and whether or not they match. Scheel had a number of little variations and it’s hard to find a true matching set.

The 914 seat is a Scheel 114. It is more narrow and more vertical than a 101. It has 914 style headrests also. See the advertisement above.

Just out of curiosity I reached out to Scheel the other day to ask about their new seats. They look great but are definitely pricey. Custom leather color (mine is dark red) and with perforations would be about $8.8k for the Scheel 101s as a front pair. About $3k of that was the custom color, FYI, although it is a color drawn from their sample pack. I think that I'll probably just bring my seats to a local car interior re-upholsterer to see about improving the hay seating.

Hola @xavier sarda,
