Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix

A long shot, I know.

I primarily wanted to remind Wayne about our previous trips, and also to point him to the splash page with the link to sign up. It features a picture on the lawn in front of the tent at turn 13 with Andrew Wilson's Athena, my car, Wayne's Bluebell and Tom Baruch's car all in one shot. https://pvgp.org/car-show-overview/bmw/

Thank you Chris and Chris, I do miss PGP already but will not miss the intense heat that usually accompanied that weekend. My first events here in the SF Bay Area will be a local 02 fest on July 11 and a San Mateo cars and coffee event on July 18, followed by my favorite Monterey weekend in mid- August. How's Annabelle running these days?

Running great. I need to tighten my speedo in the dash - its loose again and tilted sideways.

I have changed to the Continentals after driving your car (and Tom's) and that also entailed a change to the Coupe King wheels. Much different look.

I understand from speaking with Eric Zagrocki during the BMW Classic Car Club event that in 2027 BMW will be the primary sponsor at the Pittsburgh vintage grand prix. I know that Eric's local chapter of the BMW CCA is planning for the event. The most recent issue of the BMW Ultimate Classic (the BMW Classic CC newsletter) noted a special event for the Club there with a driving tour afterwards. I hope to make it and hope to see others there as well.

Thanks Lance for highlighting the 2027 plans. I had not seen the CCCA tour announcement.

A few random pics from the PVGP. (Weather forecast was for rain all weekend, and we awoke to a downpour on Sat morning. There were a few scattered showers during the day, but storms moved out and Sunday weather was very nice. I think the forecast dampened turnout).

Because of the rain and mud getting in, and the threat of rain during the day, I did not clean my wheels:

This is the entire showing of e9s:

And while M3s were supposed to be featured, this was the M3 grouping:

Here's what the event looks like from the BMW tent. That is turn 13 on the race track down there, with the MB guys on the hill and Porsche behind and to the left.

Thanks Chris, you and Tom represented our model well and the new wheels look really good on your car.

So Wayne - I heard that in addition the CCCA activities planned around next years' PVGP, that BMW is going to be the featured Marque for the entire PVGP.

You and @HB Chris and @OCCoupe and @paul cain should get together, rent a semi and ship your BMWs to the PVGP next year. Hell, maybe we can get @Peter Coomaraswamy and @Stan and @adawil2002 to join us.

And we could invite @Stevehose, but he'll have to park with the muscle car guys.

Thanks Chris, I'd be up for that and would love to set that trip up. To make it even better, are there events before or after PVGP we could think about participating in? Or you had mentioned at one time putting a nice drive experience together a la BMW Classics? My other idea is to rekindle the Monterey Car week in 2027 including the house rental in Carmel Valley we did and invite you guys out...

Rekindling Monterey Car week would be amazing. Perhaps we could rent Gordon McCall's (@latebrake) boyhood home again! That said, I'm not sure I could do Monterey and PVGP back to back in 2027 so we would have to pick one.

As to next years' PVGP, there are a couple of options. For 2027, I believe BMW is the featured Marque for the event.

Someone at the event this year mentioned BMWCCA holding Octoberfest in conjunction with the PVGP like 2018:

I don't have confirmation of the O'Fest piece of the 2027 event.

As Lance noted above, however, I do know that the CCCA is putting together a drive following the event. I've not done one of their drives, but @Doug_Dolan, @DWMBMW and @Drew Gregg have all told me that the drives/events that @Dirk puts together are well done. Also, both @HB Chris and @adawil2002 are active in the CCCA, increasing the likelihood they will attend. If I understand their schedule correctly, their event will occur during the week after the PVGP.

Alternatively, (or if we wanted to make two weeks out of it), the PVGP itself actually starts with a race the weekend before the main event, and there are a series of events (including a Gala), throughout the week before the Schenley park race weekend.

My thought right now is to do the Schenley park race weekend, and then join up with the CCCA people for their drive.

I just saw a short video that the Allegheny Chapter put out from this years' PVGP that confirms O'Fest will be there next year.
