Interior changes

Ok asking to confirm fitment here. I found a set of E24 seats from a seller I trust (purchased a transmission from him). These are listed as 6 series e24 recaro seats. Look comfortable, I would need to reupholster in red for my coupe. Will these bolt in easily? I imagine I would be removing the side rails and then just placing these in place of the E9 seats. Input welcome

Those e24 seats will still require adapters to fit the e9.

Perfect. I figured that I would need those adapters from Aardvarc but sounds like I can avoid the potential issues of cutting/welding or modifying seat bottoms that the E30 seats (which are much more readily available) would require. I may pull the trigger on these seats then - I sat in Don's and they are quite nice. I was considering refurbishing my stock seats but for the price...
 
i think you are going to find that those seats are going to sit a bit high in the coupe. on the e24, those seats bolt to the floor, not the raised seat perches our seats fit too. these are similar to the e28 + e30 sport seats
 
What are the seat options for the coupe if you leave the seat risers in? Period recarro and scheel or are there newer options that are easily retrofitted?

There are quite a few “newer” options. Corbeau makes nice seats, plenty of cool options here. ProCar makes some really comfy and supportive seats, lots of hot rodders and air cooled VW guys run them.
At Cars and Coffee’s most folks will let you sit in their car to check the interior out, good conversation starter. Put your butt in as many different seats as you can and if it fits the tush test, you’re on your way. If it leans toward the if it don’t fit you must acquit test, run, OJ is around the corner.
 
Thanks for your response. I have done some long drives and would like to upgrade the seats, but have been hesitant because I am not sure what will fit without removing the seat risers (platforms) that are in the coupes.

I need to start measuring the dimensions of the original seats so that I have that as a reference.
 
There’s a whole thread in the faq on tires, tire width, rims etc. Might be nice to assemble some of the similar information on seat options with photos. It’s a bit hard for the newbies like me, because it’s not just e21 vs e24 but it’s sport seats vs comfort seats etc. And seems to be conflicting info for some of these about how challenging the floor modifications are if they are needed. Not complaining, just seems like an opportunity for information organization
 
I’ll measure all of the seats I have and post it here, that’s a good idea!

I’ll tell you, the Recaro’s do not add much height to the seat back vs the stock seats. The headrest does have more upward adjustment to catch the head from snapping back in an impact.

I’ll measure against stock seats: seat bottom width, seat back height + width, mounting hole width + length.
 
Those seat risers are an integral part of the car's structure. You can't just remove them to lower your seat without restoring the integrity of what you have removed.

That’s my understanding but I know some have removed a portion and then done some welding to repair. I’ve only seen that as a description, not in photos so am not sure of the work required.
