Trickle charger questions

I use BMW Battery Tenders. There are the simple black ones, I have 5 of them & the fancy Gold Tenders, I have 3 for newer cars. So far no issues I have a Noco jump pack just in case.
 
I have a variety of different BatteryMinders. They are similar to Battery Tenders - but a different brand.
I have them scattered between my boat, cars, power equipment... all sorts of things.
I think I have 11 or 12 of them now.

I use a red top optima battery; just replaced one that was 12 years old. My issue is that when I connect my deltan unit to the optima it never shows fully charged state; the green light just keeps blinking…….. is the deltran actually charging the battery or do I need a different approach to maintaining the optima. I am connecting directly to battery posts.
 
I have a red top optima and my charger (Noco or Battery Tender) reaches solid green. Perhaps your unit isn’t working - another car battery you can test it on?
 
We have tried to use a battery tender on Wendy’s Porsche Macan electric- hasn’t worked well at all….

As I noted, the battery tender will only charge the battery to 12.3 volts. If the battery is charged to more than 12.3 volts when you hook up the tender, as it will be if your charging system is working well, the battery is good and your car has been run recently, the tender will give you a blinking green light and not charge.
 
AGM batteries (Optima and others) have a different voltage requirement than old school flooded lead/acid batteries.
BatteryMinder used to have a dedicated AGM unit - now their normal one senses which type of battery is hooked up and charges accordingly.
I have AGM in (most) of my car and old school batteries in the boat, power equipment and generators. My chargers get all them to fully charged status.
And - yes, I try to not put the charger on a car I have recently driven so it actually has to provide a bit of charge before it starts maintaining... so to speak.
FYI - you can run more than one battery on a single charger (at least for BatteryMinder chargers) - the batteries have to be similarly sized and of the same type (AGM or flooded). I have the Mustang and E23 currently on a shared charger - and a generator and mower on another...

I had a battery on a CTEK , and it blew up the rear panel of the battery. Fortunately no fire.
I tried to start the car and I couldn’t figure out what’s going on. I would never use that brand of chargers ever again.
Acid all over the place, a real pain.

I think you might have better results if you hook about 20 of them together in series.... ;)

Of course, it will take about 2 months to get to 80% charge...
