$49,500 cash obo Serious only please read ad.....

Runs, starts, stops, functions as it should ! Most everything works with few exceptions.
I am a lifetime (45 years) classic car hobbyist (owning, restoring) and will answer questions and give honest information about this car. I respect the craft! Not in it for money.

I intended to. keep this car and my aim over the 8 years of owning it was to make it reliable, quick and comfortable. This is a driver car with very nice fresh interior and upgraded drivetrain, many new parts and old honest 1980's paint. The car sat for 12 years inside in a high end German repair shop prior to my purchasing it.
This is not a polished, finished 100k car.

I just lost my storage space for my coupe and other old car. I think its time to move them along !

1972 BMW 3.0cs factory Black Scwarts. I have the matching numbers engine block! The car has a very interesting history.I have hundreds of receipts and a large grouping of paperwork, club magazines, correspondence going back to the 1980's involving this car as well as the E9 coupe community heavy hitters who were involved with these cars.
Included are all shop manuals and assembly guides. This car was known as "The Gene Wilder car" and the receipts show that in the 1980's the car was in Virginia, owned by another member of the forum, and that around $6000 was spent to put, what I believe were NOS body panels mostly all the way around the car. It was considered a special car by the E9 community back then due to the Gene Wilder connection.
It has the following:
Sunroof
power windows
M30B35 Motronic swap
5sp /open rear diff
Car is mostly solid and been dry for decades
Too much new to list. in the last few years....

Spent $15K on hand made full leather interior (not a kit)
Gave $15k and a rebuilt LSD diff and 5sp trans .....for the engine swap, bunch of new parts /welded powder coated front crossmember etc.
I paid $18k for the car when I bought it and $5k reg and misc.

I was thinking to disassemble the car and have it painted, restore the body and do small cosmetics, tidy up wiring etc.......which is what it could benefit from, but now too many hobbies and loss of space make letting it go the logical option.

Still has 1980's paint OLD, untouched, so no surprises. An honest car that is exactly as it appears to be.

Note: missing passenger wiper blade and drivers window just started to slip when going up or down. has dent on drivers rear above bumper( I have spare tail light lens) Also, extra parts if you want to make a deal for those, that's very possible.

I have more photos

Serious only please.....Ebay/BAT is next
Johnny

Wow! Cool car! Just my opinion but 72 is the best year, it's a factory Scwarts car with red leather, and a factory electric sunroof - it has a lot going for it.

Not that it really matters but what is the Gene Wilder connection? I read that part a couple of times, did he own it or something?

so this is a CSA that was apparently owned (originally by?) by Gene Wilder in its youth. i show that Charlie Kenney owned it in Alexandria, VA in 1985 and i believe he owned it for a long time. Johnny, did you buy it from him or his family?

Yes the story was that he bought the car new. I have paper work that noting that but I have not found absolute proof.

Good questions
Charles Kenny owned the car in Virginia. The person I bough the car from brought the car back to California had it here. Someone took it for a joyride and the owner put it in a high end BMW shop where it sat inside for a dozen years. My friend has a tow truck company and told me about it. The shop owner wanted me to have it.....The owner of the car wanted me to have it, so that's what happened. I have a large amount of really interesting paperwork on the cars history.

To satisfy the inevitable curiosity of prospective buyers, perhaps you can clarify a few points:
  • Does the car currently run and drive?
  • Title status?
  • Are all of these photos recent?
  • "...NOS body panels mostly all the way around the car." Was the car in a collision (or state of corrosion) that warranted new body panels all around?
  • "I have the matching numbers engine block!" Complete engine or just the bare block? Either way, what is the state (read: health) of the engine?
  • "has dent on drivers rear above bumper( I have spare tail light lens)" Please post clear, well-lit photos of this damage.

Looks like more information is needed! Thank you for helping.
  • Does the car currently run and drive?
  • Yes very well
  • Title status?
  • Clear California title and 2027 tags in my name See attachment
  • Are all of these photos recent?
  • Most of the photos are from a year ago
  • "...NOS body panels mostly all the way around the car." Was the car in a collision (or state of corrosion) that warranted new body panels all around?
  • See attachment / I have most all of the history for the car. Two binders full.
  • "I have the matching numbers engine block!" Complete engine or just the bare block? Either way, what is the state (read: health) of the engine?
  • Bare block matching numbers/ big write up on it here about finding it from another member etc.
  • M30B35 engine runs great Quick ..no smoke..no issues.
  • A member came and drove it today maybe he will chime in?
  • "has dent on drivers rear above bumper( I have spare tail light lens)" Please post clear, well-lit photos of this damage.
  • Will post more pictures tomorrow of damage near rear tail light ASAP !
Please let me know if you have more questions. Happy to answer :)

Any rust coming through?

Is the rocker trim on the car? Some pics don't have it.

AC works?

Sunroof work?

Any videos?
Sunroof works well

Rocker moldings were off to look for rust/ looks solid/ rockers back on car

AC removed and discarded during engine upgrade to M30B35 engine /planned to add newer pump later i

I will try to make a video ASAP

Looks like a really nice coupe with much going for it. Agree about great color combo - your interior is gorgeous! Best of success with the sale.
It is a really nice car to drive. The interior is very nicely done. Pretty quick with the engine upgrade also.

More photos of paperwork/ I have most of the history of the car sense the 1980's I believe
