Many of us have accumulated extra parts over the months and years. I am not organized enough to make a long list of everything that I need because I’m always taking on the next project and finding the next list of needed items, but my suggestion to you is the following:
1. Spend a few weeks with the car as-is. Figure out what weirdnesses there are. Why does this button not work? What is that weird rattle? What is this wire I found behind the glovebox that is bright purple and doesn’t look OEM? Make a list of those things
2. Poke around on the forum, especially the “what did you do to your E9 today” thread. You’ll see what projects people have worked on or completed and it will give you an idea of what you may want to tackle
3. Decide how much upgrading you want to do. Window relays and motors are classic example. Maybe yours work right now so you decide you don’t want to touch them. Maybe they don’t and if you’re going to fix it, upgrade makes sense. Maybe they do work but you’d rather take the time now to upgrade. All viable choices and there’s about 50 other equivalent decision points
4. From that list determine what parts are needed. Some are easy and you can order. Others are able to be found but not new and will require finding from another forum member or eBay so may take a while. Post a “parts wanted” thread of the things you need. Also keep an eye on the parts for sale thread for things that you may want to be working on.
Sorry for the long response, on a 15-hr flight so need to distract myself.
