I installed my M1 steering wheel last night. While it feels quite nice, I noticed my hub appears to be quite long. Looking through forum photos, I see this Hub on this link is a little shorter than mine.
(look for 7th photo on this page)

Anyone have one of these to sell?

Tia, Bob.

Now that I look again, maybe it is the same part at a different angle. Anyway, other than looking a little dorky, the fit is pretty good.

What you are showing us is a MOMO hub and those come in fact in different lenghts. A picture of your own wheel would help.

I didn't have a tape measure handy. Overall it is quite comfortable, so maybe I am jumping the gun, but it looks a little longer from the dash than a stock one would be.

Training session in order--

Nicad--with all the bicycles in the near background.

Its a good time to have a serious training sesssion as to bicycles versus the E-9 in the garage--handle bars and pedal cranks are deadly weapons around an E-9.

Looking at various pictures of how the Italvolanti wheel mounts to its hub, it appears that it is mounted with just 3 allen screws vs the 6 screws Momo style hubs and the Petri/CSL hubs. The Italvolanti hub does look longer than most standard hubs for BMWs. The Petri hub is approximately 3.75" long and I believe the Momo units are about the same length.

Hub

What you have in your car is an Italvolanti Ati3 from BMW Motorsport for the 6 cyl. cars, the hub should have the number 522. Those were available over the counter at BMW up to the early 80´s and although used also in race cars, those were not standard issue in the M1s.Here is a picture with the options for this wheel: Left to right: the 522 like in your car is 12 cm, the 520X 11cm, the 622 10 cm long.

The car has two more days in this garage, then it is off to the SPA 8 minutes from home with AC,Heat and mega stereo . The Corvair that takes it's place will be a threat to the bicycles.
