Front undertray

Perhaps I could advise that I managed to locate a NOS front undertray Part Number 51 47 1 811 948 a while ago for my car and, knowing how much trouble I had in locating one, I decided to have produced replicas in black fibreglass using the stock item as a faithful pattern for others. I can knock these out at £150 a copy including stainless steel brackets and fixing screws plus post and packing (£15 for UK). I would imagine that most cars have been molested to some degree or other in the front apron department and, for this reason, I can either supply the undertray with the six standard "ears" and drillings on the leading edge or with a blank leading edge leaving the owner to do his own drillings in order to suit his particular car. The cut-outs for the radiator supports are in the right place in both cases, of course.

I know from experience that the original BMW component was not noted for its longevity. From memory, I have got through 3, possibly 4. of these undertrays in my time with the car as they became sodden with oil and water. In fact, it is very unusual these days to see a car still fitted with this undertray. You only have to observe the way the CSL bonnet swells and strains at the fixings to know that this factory-issue component is an essential piece of the car.

I do not have these in stock but they only take about 14 days to produce. Please PM me if you are interested or require further information.

JV,
I'm interested but would assume the freight would be prohibitive to N. Cal from the UK. At $1.55/ Pound Sterling the cost for product would be $232.50 each. I thought posting this question would be better than PM since it will let all of us on this side of the Pond understand the costs.

Since my coupe is hardly ever in the rain and I coated the inside of my factory shield I would suggest those of us in the Colony purchase a flimsy original from the dealer. About
$220. Total.

hi, i am interested in this part that you are reproducing
are you supplying a LHD or a RHD ? or are they the same in both cases ?
an estimation of shipping costs to spain will be appreciated
regards

Hello there

I'd be interested in taking one for my csi. Do you have an image of the tray fitted ?, as mine has never had one since I've owned it.

Many thanks

Ives,

Thanks. Understood. Enquiries at this end suggest that the shipping cost to California, for example, would be £55 plus VAT equals £66.

Thanks for your interest, though.

Best,

Christopher,

I am afraid that my car is presently in the spray shop and likely to remain there until at least the end of the week.

I will try to post some photos "as fitted" next week.

Best.

deQuincey,

The tray is the same for both LHD and RHD. Shipping to Bilbao, Spain is £24 plus VAT.

Best,

no updates, probably on holliday, or inmerse in a massive tvwatching the olympics :-o
though i consider this a very nice chance to get a better material for this part i am in a mixed feelings thinking that if i place this part i will not be able to see any leakings comming from the engine area

DeQuincey,
noooooo, for someone who is not as mechanically minded, seeing less problems will make me sleep better.... ................ just kidding
I am thinking whether it may 'protect' the engine area a bit better below from the rough roads here........ but on the other hand its likely to be just hanging on my garage's wall for few years before it gets used.

+1 for the Olympics

any updates? still available?
Loloe, Sorry but I have been a bit tied up of late but I am taking delivery of a further 4 undertrays this week. I sent one off to Bill Rama in your city last week and I know that the shipment cost £79.

I know that a couple of people are waiting to see a picture of the undertray as mounted on my car but I am afraid that this will be delayed yet again. The car has been in the spray-shop for 4 weeks now but I am waiting for the paint to "sink" before a final flat and polish and then it will be back with me in a fortnight's time. Thanks for your patience (Christopher and Neil)
