new tool box observations

Some other items that Carl and I noticed:

-molded plastic is GRP (glass reinforced plactic) that add substantially to mechanical strength of the upper and lower clam shells

-inserted foam is much more dense material and black (vs orig. grey/green)

-hinge stops are clear irridite plated vs. orignal chrome

The GRP should make these boxes much stronger then the originals. Plastics technology has come a long way in 40+ years.

That is the answer I was looking for! I can store my tools there!
So long, tool roll!

Raises your CG, and puts stress on the lid components (latch area)

And may negatively impact the market value for restored t-boxes.
I saw one at kormans when I was looking at Paul's CSL. Box was destined for an early/lightweight CSL in his showroom. Adding the new box and tools to that light lid is, IMHO, a mistake. The added weight puts undue stress on the structure and may be a contributor to why the lids develop cracks in their inner stiffener. THAT was the CSL to buy as it was all done and correctly, but it was not fs. Apparently it would soon be resting in its own custom designed garage (eg the whole structure).
Must be nice to be wealthy. . .

Well, I thought the t-box was a really nice piece and fairly priced (when you consider the cost of decent quality tooling).

My tool box just crumbled around the latch and had to remove it. In researching a replacement, I came across this thread suggesting folks were making reproductions. Coupe King has some restored tool boxes but I worried that the old plastic is only going to be brittle again and break like my. Any thoughts?

Don’t laugh but no. Have not been able to figure out how to capture the link ...
