Hello E9'ers in NYC area. I am pursuing a BMW from a small private dealer in Staten Island. I am in So. Cal and need some local assistance.

I need help with having a local enthusiast do a quick inspection to match VIN no. to the paper title and drive the car around the block. (not a full inspection). I mostly just want to verify the seller is legit before wire transferring funds.

Anyone available for 2-3 hours for an adventure with cash reward?

Good call, Paul. Need to make sure this car wasn't full of water last month. Call me if you can't find someone here and I will make a call. Vinnie just got done unpacking the Marlboro trailer he jacked last week.

I just pinged Steve (www.garageboy.com) to see if he or somebody he knows can do that. He is in Manhattan, or was if Sandy did not sweep him away.
Steve is incredibly picky for body and paint issues, he never leaves home without a magnet :).

I'm more than happy to look at this car. I can also bring my paint thickness gauge so that you can know more about that. While my eyes can see all sins, the gauge can reveal the depth of the bondo... I mean, the problem. :)

You do realize Staten Island was badly damaged in the hurricane/flood, right? What's the timeframe?

NY inspection / Completed / Thanks

Just a quick note of thanks to Arde and Steven. Arde's introduction to Steven Bernstein was an excellent referral. Steven is a knowledgeable E28 enthusiast and goes by garageboy on the E28 board.

Steven drove from Queen's to Staten Island this past Sunday and did a very comprehensive check on both the target BMW and the seller -who in fact turned out to be quite legitimate.

If anyone needs a PPI in the NY area, I can highly recommend Steven. Steven and I agreed on $200 payment to take an afternoon in the dead of winter to go crawl around on the concrete with a digital camera and provide prompt and objective report. Money very well spent.

To Arde - Thank you. To Steven - well done!
 
Glad it worked out. Steve is a great character and very demanding with his cars.

BTW, are you getting the car?

For another $200 we can get you a closer to negotiate the deal :).
