Diving/fog lights pic thread

I suppose the purpose back in the day was to supplement the poor stock lighting, but certainly for rally/high speed driving. The yellow lenses were supposed to cut back on reflected glare from water vapor in the air because of the wavelenght of yellow light, but this theory has been disproven.

I have them wired to come on with the high beams, along with a switch to turn them off if I don't want them on at all. They light up everything ahead, especially signs, from very far away.

I rarely have them on since I do mostly city driving, like I said before, I just like the period look as an accessory. Like 14" Alpina wheels for example, which I'd love to have someday also.

Steve,

2 points - clear lenses (very little optical bevels) is more of a driving light than a fog light. the same is true by reflected light a long way away. fog lights disperse light sideways to see conditions close up in fog.

that being said - they look extremely kewl

well, no intention of crossing the pond for chasing those lights, not aclose friend of those guys...

steve, what about legal issues, can you install and drive with those lights legally in your state/country ?

regards

They are classified as "accessory lights" so if mounted within a certain height from the ground and not used in oncoming traffic they are ok and also can be yellow. I could not get away with rb1971's setup with the yellow low and high beams, they could write me a ticket just for having them installed. I think this is true in most states (even CA) so he is truly an outlaw :-P

thank you steve,
i am trying to get an offcial answer about this here
but i am afraid that probably they are illegal here too
the problem is that the more i look to your pics, the more i love the setup

in spanish we say: " culo veo, culo quiero", a free translation will be: "ass i see, ass i want", ha, ha, ha

also the fact of having drilled holes in my front bumper helps...

If you've got the holes already you have nothing to lose! I bet clear driving or fog lights are perfectly legal there, depending on the type you can switch to yellow bulbs for that look if you so choose.

Hah! That probably explains why I was "deported" to Australia for the holidays.

that is a beautiful view, bob
not only the front of the car, the garage, the goodies on the wall,...
those carellos are really nice, anyway my choice is a smaller diameter, so the marchals are ....mmmmmnnn, so sweet !

I like them - and uncommon too. Now, give us the details on the steering wheels on the wall

On the Wall I mounted some of my Extra steering wheels. They are hard to store in boxes so I figured I might as well look at them. I kinda want to get a Petri at this point, just to have another option. The current wheels in the room are an E36 M3 Three spoke, E46 M 3 spoke, 1966 Corvair/Corvette faux wood with stainless spokes (Kinda a US Petri) my stock 72' 2002 steering wheel and a nice leather wheel from a Lotus Elan that I bought just because I wanted to own at least 1 Lotus part (A Lotus Elise is probably my most lusted after car). I also have a Racecrafters wood wheel that came with my Coupe. Might be selling that one.
Also mounted on the wall are the Ceramic coated mystery headers that Canadians seem to own (Me and Pamp) and a polished Grille that is safer sitting on the wall. Visited my home away from home today. Did a little shovelling , made sure the heat was still keeping things around 50f and checked for stray footprints around the building. Hope to be there a lot starting next week.
