Steam cleaning

Enjoy the trip

Definitely do the trip. Steam clean if you want but make sure they do a full fluid service (engine, tranny, rear diff, brakes) tires and brake pad inspection etc. As far as tools, bring a metric socket set up to 13mm and check to see if your trunk lid tools are all there. Keep track of mileage and oil consumption. Bring a tripod for the camera.

Best advice I can offer on a trip with three passengers is pack light. Space is at a premium but weight is what will break it down.

Stop at every Nat'l Monument, State or Nat'l Park and roadside curiosity. Lots of pics and depending on the age of the kids - a journal. A photo of you and the car at every Paul Bunyan-esq entry feature that small towns seem to love erecting.

Road trips are why we drive, right?

and AAA

i like mikes approach to road trip, if your car is well looked after, chk all the fluids and go. only addition i would make is a membership in AAA, and in event of tow specify flatbed vs tow.

mmmmnnn, dry ice cleaning ?
i have never seen that, sounds nice
anyway, i assume that you should wait until the engine is cold enough...:!:

no need. it is very safe actually, you can run it on cables, hoses, pretty much anything. As long as it is not something where you want paint etc to remain.

what it does is shoot little dry ice pellets that instantly freezes stuff like oil, grease etc and then it cracks and falls off and you are left with a dry dust.

Very handy for the right things.

First heard about cryogenic detailing at last year's Cavallino Classic, and after seeing the engine bays of several Ferraris that had been through the process, I was definitely convinced. As Johan indicated, the dirt etc. just turns into a harmless powder that can be blown off.

Taking two teens is a good choice, they tend to be lighter than taking your in-laws and have the stamina to push the car when it breaks down. The tool box should have room for a spare teen or two.

I did the steam clean thing when I got the E36 and the VW Cabrio and was very happy with the results. Little ice cubes are best saved for my Martinis.
