Panel behind front wheels

Is the panel he is pointing to a part available today from BMW or a vendor like W&N?

That was kinda what I thought. Seems like on the old forum years ago, early Volvo fender liners were pretty popular as a solution to keeping the water/debris out of that vunerable cavity?!? Makes sense for a daily driver or long road trips in inclement weather?!?!
 
I loved watching the factory race coupe carry the inside front wheel thru that turn, that was absolutely sweet :):):).
That video personality guy isn’t very well informed IMO, where he checked for rust is only the start of a real inspection but we all know that in this group………… it’s just a video for the general clueless publics amusement. ~ John Buchtenkirch

The same announcer has a show now on Velocity called Wheeler Dealers, in which he buys a worn out VW GTI, 944, Lancia Delta Integrale, etc and fixes the car up with Edd, his sidekick mechanic. Then he flips the cars. It is all the affordable classics that appeals to most of us on this forum. Cars we all might like to own one day, and certainly the cars I liked in high school and college but could never afford.

That track footage was awesome.

Judging by how Mike looks in the video versus the TV episode last week, I think he was barely in his twenty's for the video and closer to late forty's now. Probably less rust 20+ years ago..
 
The Shapeshifting CSL

CSL's were and are amazing cars! For instance:

Look at the attached video closely. At about 46 seconds into the video a green CSL with 4 headlights goes through a right to left series of turns and in the middle it changes into a 2 headlight 320i and then back again!

Who would have thought that a racing CSL was a shapeshifter!

On second thought, there seem to be some 'appearing' CSL's today that have shapeshifted from being CS's or CSL's!
 
The white CSL at 40 seconds and the second green CSL at 46 seconds both simply have black plates over the inner headlight holes in the grill.
 
It seems that they were cheap looking back now but who would have paid that much for those cars back then? I bet they didn't seem like bargains at the time. $45,000 was a lot of money, even for a Bat.

What are today's bargains?

'73 ~ '77 Porsche 911? Victim of a, albeit justified, bad reputation for severely overheated engines. The Pininfarina styled Peugeot 406 coupe?
Others???

For myself I would choose cars that are pre computer management; cars that the average guy with average tools can tinker with. Has to be a looker. Preferably coupe or two door.
