SCM price guide--way off

So, I got my sports car market price guide and it has CS coupes topping out at 17500 and non BAT CSLs toppIng out at 45000. Of course, this is absurd, and doesn't even reflect recent auction data. The cheapest CSL at auction lately has been 63k, with many including Lorenzo's and TJs around 100k.

He has a similar car, the Alfa GTV topping out at 30k and the many Gta variants at 100-150k, which seems approprIate.

Should we collectively try to get SCMs attention and get them to update their guide? Coupes get no respect.

I received my SCM today as well and the price guide.
I also found it to be lacking of what I thought the values 'should' be based on what I have seen from here as well as other car sale sites.
If you look - they value the 2002tii very generously and higher than the 2002 Turbo. ???

But regardless, the numbers for the E9 don't seem to be there.

They also have omitted the entire 1968 Mustang - GT package.
But - of course... Keith has every flavor of Italian car represented in spades.

Oh well....
 
A 3.0CSi in very good condition (though not concours standard / mint) is listed at €32k (approx. $42k) here in Germany. Very original cars might exceed that value with up to 50%. A just about decent car ready for another one or two years of driving would be about €5k.

Resto-mod coupe, nicely done, but I'm not sure how to classify it....40k "winning bid". I'll have to contact my insurer and raise my agreed value.

I do think it is our responsibility. However there is a definite reluctance for sellers and buyers to publish the price on the nicer cars trading hands. TJ and Murray, as an example, built great examples but the price they commanded was never more than a "whisper number". Even the well known coupe dealers don't seem to publish that info. Until the prices can be documented, I'm not sure what impact we can make with SCM...

I suppose we could collect the approximate value and then provide SCM with contact info for the buyers to confirm the actual..This is how Forbes compiles their list of richest people- it's all very secretive.
 
Its all a bit of averages, we always hear about the top-dollar, hermetically-new unrestored cars, but the law of averages tends to balance those outlier prices quite a bit. Now granted, its not like tons of our cars sell every year, but even if every single sale was tracked, for every single variant, its pretty reasonable to see that the exceptional examples are clearly not the norm, even with grade 6 through grade 1 descriptions. After all, that is why they are exceptional, they are not the norm! Every single one of us feels our car is a solid 1 (well, maybe a 2) but in the overall collector car market, most of our cars are at best solid 3's, and most of the ones that we salivate over as exemplars are really 2's (at least according to Hagerty) And when a grade 1 car is considered "new in all respects" --- the hobby still generally doesn't account for cost of restoration as readily re-gained when selling our cars. A few differ, and variables like a recently-deceased namesake (Ferrari and Cobra come to mind) are inpossible to quantify when it really is only the truly wealthy who are dabbling. The numbers for serie-2 BATs, and factory or privateer known 70's racers are so small that sneering at a price guide's inability to anticipate deep pocket collectors is, well, silly. But we are fans, obviously, and the word is short for fanatic (not always the most level-headed of people-types.)
