E30 Wheels - Offset

Think the offset of those is 15mm. They should fit the coupe, but watch out for the front fender lips and the strut housings as they may rub. Ideally, CS wheels should have 10 or 11 offsets, at least for the fronts.

Thanks Bert - I was wondering what the best offset was for the E9. With wheels with too large an offset I can run a spacer if I have to (if my studs are long enough).

Cheers

maybe i'm remembering incorrectly, but a smaller offset moves the outside of the wheel further from the centerline of the car ... if all other things are equal.

think about it - a stock e36 m3 series uses a about an et39, while the e30 m3 uses an et24 (i don't remember the numbers exactly ... but for discussion purposes this makes sense when you look at the application of a spacer to put the newer wheel on the e30 m3. to use an e36 m3 wheel on an e30 m3, you had to add a 15mm to 18mm spacer - which pushes the wheel away from the hub. conversely, you couldn't put the e30 m3 wheel on the e36.

... i just realized, i'm thinking about the alpina 16" staggers ... and i have no idea what the offset is on the stock 14" or alpina 14".

I know from other cars I have that a +15 offset wheel will be in the same place in the wheel well as a +20 offset wheel w/ a 5mm spacer.

Indeed, higher offsets will push the rims toward the struts. Running spacers will be problematic with the coupes as they employ the already mentioned wheel studs. Changing to the longer back mounted bolts can be done, but it requires a lot of work, and in particular, the rear hub mechanisms. Much easier to spacers on later cars that use wheel bolts.

OK I think I get it now. I need BBS wheels w/ rear offset of +24 (is that ET24?) and front offset of +11

The +24's are easy to find but the +11's are not.

James,

its not just a function of offset, its in combination with the width. the offsets for the 16" alpinas are et 11 for the 7" width (fronts) and et 24 for 8" width (rears). the stock 6" wheels had the same offset (still don't remember what it is). presumably 7" wheels could have the same offset - perhaps somebody knows that information. i would assume that it would have to be between et 11 and et 15 ... the closer it gets to 15, the more chance of the inside rubbing somewhere. my bet is that et 24 will rub on the inside.

with 7" rears ... i don't think you need et 24 ... there's a lot of space between the 8" wide rear wheel and the fender at et 24.

Thanks RS

I am looking at getting 16x7 front wheels and 16x8 rear but I may end up just getting 16x7's all around because it's hard to find low offset BBS wheels on Ebay or Craigslist. Most are 24 or higher.

I know it's not all about offset - but the process is like this:

Get the correct offset so the wheels is centered in the well. Then determine how wide of a wheel/tire combo will fit in there without rubbing on the fender on the outside or strut or control arms in the inside.

Does anyone know the offset on these and if they will be in or out too far on the E9?

Thx
James

OEM BBS wheels on E30 M3's are 15x7 with 30mm offset.

the offset wasn't important for the discussion - the difference was. my former m3 had 16" x 8" wheels, and you needed between et 20 + et 24 as i remember.

Not pickn up what your laying down RS ? OP wanted to know the offset on the e30 M3 wheel's for sale on CL .
