Guys, have just had the rust repair shop on the phone. It appears that while doing the final stages of door work, they have discovered some rust at the top of the door ,and specifically, inside top door skin lip (that the chrome moulding covers ...if that makes sense ?) . They will try and treat/repair without removing the glass as it is not very bad ( yes, I know , all rust is very bad ), however, assuming a worst case scenario, what's the best strategy to give better access ?Unfortunately, I'm flying blind a bit and can only go by photos on the Forum but it looks as if the glass is secured by bolts attached to the window regulator ...so is it simply a case of just undoing the bolts to remove the glass ?...or is there something more sinister that needs to be addressed ? Presumably this process needs to be fairly straightforward given the need to replace say a broken window ? The car is a '74 csi and I don't believe access to window "guts " is as easy as earlier models ( but I'm probably wrong ...as my wife constantly reminds me :)
Hope someone can assist , Cheers, Simon

Simon,

if it's just a minor repair I probably also would remain the glass inside the door, but of course there's always a risk to damage the glass by grinding welds or so.

To remove the glass to avoid these problems is not a big deal, more or less self explaining, which bolts have to be removed. If you already removed the complete inner covers (also the part, which is carrying the wood) I guess it's not more than 15 bolts/nuts.

First would be to remove the mechanics for upper or lower the glass, than anmount the glass at the rear end from the guiding profile and after that the profile itself. That's all to be able to remove the glass now. To go ahead to the triangular glass it's also not very ambitious. Just remove the mechanic with the turning wheel (therefor you need to remove the wheel also). After this mechanic piece it's again just a few bolts/nut, which hold the entire triangular glass unit.

Overall just a 15 minutes job, no rocket science and always worth to consider/spend.

cheers

Ingo
