We’ve been making Tow hooks for years one at a time but now we have the jig set up if there’s any interest.

Front tow hooks are welded on

That little hoop on the back of the car shouldn’t ever be used as a tow hook!

Agree that the rear hoop looks pretty flimsy. Are you thinking one of these could be welded on somewhere in the rear in lieu of that wimpy loop?

For two decades, we have seen cars come in with tow hooks snapped off or mangled.
I believe it’s all caused by those darn concrete blocks in the parking lots across the planet.
We cut off what’s left weld up the cracks and weld on new tow hooks in the front only.
Somebody smarter than us will finally figure out what that little hook on the back is for-
It certainly isn’t for towing it would rip off in a heartbeat.
The guys in the shop believe it is a tiedown for car covers.

little hook
Transport anchor point: It served as a factory tie-down point for straps when the brand-new car was being transported by truck or train from the factory to dealerships.

When the trucks came into the dealer here from the dock with coupes they used J hooks on the rear control arms or half shafts.
The guy who worked at Weber Motors back then is now the chief mechanic at our shop.
Started at the dealer age 15 sweeping floors and still working on coupes 54 years later.
Ed Kaufman- the man that BMW trained...

The rear simply is lacking a decent steel structure low down enough for anything like a towhook. US specced e9's , maybe only after (mid?) 73, have some reinforcements, but those are on boot floor level.

Out of interest: if you're in need of towing anything - would you even consider a 50 year old car? If anything goes wrong, it such more of a hassle to fix.
