'70 auto E9 / 2800cs for sale in Northern California:

NMNA. A '70 auto E9 / 2800cs for sale in Northern California:

We had several postings in the last year about an E9 in NorCal that wasn't well maintained. I think this is a different car.
Oooh, yes JP….likely a different car as Seller in this Ad feels like he is honestly transparent and as 4th owner of car, its mostly very well cared for….darn, I’m tempted (never had e9) but current bmw projects (73-2002-baur, e23-745, 76-3.0si, 74e3-bavaria, 69-e3-2800, 76-e10-2002)…do i want to somehow buy this, my 1st e9 and doesn't feel like a “project “ at all…. JP, are you close to this guy ? Best wishes…in Bucks Cty PA now until sunday Thomas

This one has a great history being a California car its whole life and family-owned since 1984. Though more pictures would be needed of the critical bits, could be a great deal if not crusty.

Yes…and without In-person inspection, seems like great / honest pricing and from a genuine nice/transparent Seller….im in NY, too many current projects and other stuff but never had e9… darn, this is not good for my vintage bmw mental health, tempting…lol…. Best wishes Mkent……thomas in NY

this car was owned by Roger Lake in Livermore in 1984. its the only reference i have on the car

It is still owned by Roger who was my old boss from fifty years ago at Lawrence Livermore Lab. He’s a real do it yourself car guy with a small collection of mostly British, but some German cars. We are still friends and it is time for another visit with he and his wife.
I also live in Livermore and saw this CS a couple of years ago. It appeared solid, but could use the cosmetic refreshing of paint, bright work, engine bay and trunk you would expect from a 55 year old driver.
I’m out of town in Europe until Wednesday next week, but would be glad to help if I can. Contact me directly if you want to coordinate something.

It does look like it could be a great opportunity.

But a question: What am I seeing just above the driveshaft hump, on the front face of the bolster between the two rear seats? I have a '70 2800 CS and it doesn't have that doo-dad. Is it a third ashtray for the children who are the only ones that can fit back there?

As much as i would desire my first e9, i think i should shrewdly focus on continuing/finishing the 5-6 current (previously shared) vintage projects i have…but hope Seller finds the right, respectful e9 buyer appreciating its value, charm, etc..best wishes to Seller and anyone reading this chain…

It is indeed an ashtray, I thought all coupes had them

Mmm - learn something new every day. My coupe doesn't have an ashtray there, but it was 19 years old when I got it, so perhaps a previous owner decided that the two ashtrays on the side panels were enough for his children. Musn't spoil the little darlings.

I would not hesitate to jump on a good coupe, if you need a manual, there are plenty of options. Used 4 speeds are available and relatively in-expensive.

I think there's some real value in Norm's offer; he knows the owner personally, and could probably do a personal inspection for you.

I also agree with Paulaner and Boonies.. this automatic might be a good way to transition to the E9. There are lots of options and individuals here on the forum who can provide insight and advice to convert this vehicle to manual.
