Cleaning carbon off the intake valves

I run side draft carbs on my Austin Healy Sprite race car. I thought side drafts were an advantage due to better air flow by having a straight shot into the heads with minimal corners to slow it. Yes, more gas gets in there but so does more air. The air fuel ratio should still be the same if...

Cleaning carbon off the intake valves

I do not have side draft Webers on my Coupe. Mine are the JAM Engineering kit which is down draft and does have the oil vapors from the crankcase feed back into the air breather as is stock. I know of new cars that had direct fuel injection that were having problems with carbon build up on...

Cleaning carbon off the intake valves

I thought carbon build up on the intake valve was usually caused by oil vapor from the PCV system. From what I understand it is most common with direct fuel injection engines. Carbureted or throttle body injected engines normally don't have a serious problem with carbon build up on the intake...

    Another Fjord on BaT

You guys make me fear ever selling my Coupe. o_O It will probably be done after I have passed on and will not have to deal with selling it.

The Art of racing in the rain movie

I like the audio book and the movie. I listen to the book many times on long trips. A friend that told me about the book many years ago just recently saw the movie and did not like Kevin Costner as the voice of Enzo. It worked for me.

E9 in the movies (or at least Apple TV miniseries)

When they used my Coupe for the Karen Carpenter story, the dufus driving it must have thought it was an automatic because he tried to put it in gear without using the clutch. Fortunately, no damage was done.

FS: (SOLD) Tan leather Seat Covers Fronts Only Pair (L 0303) Late 1974 Style $250 for the pair

I was ready to jump on these, but of course they don't match the lines of my 70 2800CS.

    4 speed or 5 speed?

I understand the drop in rpm and said I would probably like it. However, I have driven between Costa Mesa and Monterey many times to and from the Historics at Laguna Seca running between 80 and 90 mph. It has been a long time since I have done it, but I think it was over a 5-hour drive. I...

Is anyone going to Copperstate 1000 April 6-10

I am not going, but that is a beautiful photo of your car and you.

    4 speed or 5 speed?

I like the 4 spd in my 2800CS. Running at 80 mph results in the engine rpm at 4,000. That is just purring for that BMW engine. I am sure I would like a 5 speed with OD, but I don't feel the need to go to the effort to install one just to drop the rpm a little. I normally like my vehicles to...

We get asked how to install compliance bushings…

When I did mine a long time ago, I recall making some kind of sleeve to pull it in place. I don't remember the details. That had to have been at least 40 years ago.

While I was looking at it, the bid changed to $65,000 right before my eyes. Magic!

Sounds good. I would like the entire piece for spare parts. Mine is working fine now with an old repair on it.

    California weather

I am getting a fair amount of rain, but my house is in an area that would be very difficult to flood. My daily driver is a slightly lifted Ford Ranger with 33" tires, so getting around on the streets is usually not a problem.

Free, manual window winder with busted center pin

I would take it, but I am sure shipping to California would be cost prohibitive.

    e9 vs todays´cars,....size matters ?

This thread is so true. I used to think my Coupe was a mid-pack size car. The past few years when I walk out into a parking lot, I have noticed how small my Coupe is compared to the rest of the cars, but I would not trade it for any of them. Classic style is more important to me than size.

    "Washing your e9"

My washing process is similar to Wobodog's, but I do squeeze out some of the soapy solution from the sponge before putting the sponge to the car. I rinse off the soapy solution with a towel that is wetted with water. I do the rinse a couple times and then dry with a soft towel. In addition to...

    Race cars!

That is a lot of lean for a race car in that first picture. It reminds me of when I used to run my coupe in BMWACA high speed driving schools. At a Riverside racetrack event before the last session of one weekend, my race instructor came up to me and told me to take it easy. He said in an...

What is the pro and con of a 25% diff vs a 40% diff?

The 40% will require more attention when accelerating while turning with wet pavement. Most of us don't drive in the rain, so that is normally not a problem. However, this can also raise its ugly head on slippery surfaces like some concrete. Another thing that you can get with a 40% LSD is...

WTB: Ivory early model (1970 2800 CS) speedometer

Great that saves me from having to dig through my stuff for the speedometer. I understand the ivory now. I looked at mine and can see the ivory numbers and needle. I replace my clock and it must be a later one. It has white numbers and needle. I got my original clock working. I guess it...
