Dual to Single Circuit Braking System

Before ABS systems took over the role of proportioning valves, all cars with rear discs and diagonally split systems must have had either two propotioning valves, or a twin one. Trying to recall what my old mk2golf gti had, it only had one proportioning valve (I remember freeing it off to pass...

Dual to Single Circuit Braking System

Ive always like the braking on early RHD BMs, there is a slight pause, but the braking feel is confident with the 4 pot fronts. There are 6 pairs of pistons on the car, 4 pairs on the front and two pairs on the rear, so any system would need to supply fluid in multiple brake lines, 2 lines to...

    WTB Rear exhaust manifold RHD

I've seen a couple of RHD manifolds turn up on eBay recently. Not sure if the manifold is the same part on E24/28 etc.?

    Big Sur Hwy 1

Speaking as a non-US tax payer, yes! It must pay its way in tourist dollars, no? I drove highway 1 about 10 years back, after flying half way round the world first. California has other draws for sure, but this road is a biggie

RHD Csi for sale , England UK

There looks to be something misaligned in the engine bay, the rubber boot between the air box and the throttle body should be straighter than that. Perhaps engine mounts? Might cause clearance issues with the rad and fan?

    OEM jacks

Ah I see, every day is a school day here. ;) Was hoping to avoid welding inside the boot space as it's harder to tidy up afterwards. But all can be fixed, I'll put it on the list! Thanks again for the photos, will be helpful for the welding. Soon I think as the exhaust is already off. The pin...

    OEM jacks

Thanks for the photos Erik, likely that my car has had a new spare wheel well at some point, and the tailpipe and other attachment points didn't go back as factory. Interesting that my tailpipe hanger is attached by a hole in about the same place as the M8 jack mounting pin. Makes me think that...

    OEM jacks

I'm missing a few original parts for my E9, one of which is the jack, which is in fact a very useful thing to have to hand in extremis! For a uk 1972 CSL, should I have a long handle jack or the jack with the short stubby handle? And how does it stow? I can't see any obvious means of attachment...

    Tell me about impact guns

I have one of these hand impact drivers, but hadn't equated this with an impact gun, oops. I find the hand impact driver invaluable for those little brake disc screws! Happy to give my hub hearing a go with it, see what it can do. ...as the air gun I've bought is not up to the job!! Actually, I...

    Tell me about impact guns

That makes sense. I have a battery drill that I use infrequently, and so I never have a charged battery to hand when I need one! An impact driver would also be used rarely, so a battery driver would need a charger that can keep a battery in good shape and charged. I had not considered a mains...

    Tell me about impact guns

I need to replace a wheel bearing on my modern Nissan, and having looked on YouTube, I think having an impact gun will make the hub nut a much easier proposition. I've only ever used hand tools on my cars, so this is a new thing for me. Should I get an air gun, or a battery gun? I'm looking for...

    Gas expansion tank

Changing these hoses around the tank, pump and accumulator was the least pleasant part of renewing all of the rubber in the fuel system on my car; flat on back on cold garage floor, with fuel dripping around me, I can almost smell it still, nearly a year later [shudder!] Pretty sure the...

55mm tailpipe NOS exhaust tube +chrome end tip +bracket75 euro's -sold-

Sorry to side track, but what is the part no. of the correct 60mm diameter part Markos helped you source? Checking on realoem, 18111245339 is listed as the correct part for all the 3 litre cars, CS, CSi, CSL & CSiL, and the 2.5 and 2.8 cars have a different tail pipe part number (with a...

Trans oil for limited slip diff

The Castrol bottle has an extendable nozzle, which is slim enough to fit right inside the diff fill hole. So I just placed the nozzle in the hole, then pushed the bottle up between the half shaft and the suspension arm, and gave the bottle small squeezes. Not problematic at all. Each squeeze...

    Question: Rear Brake Refurbishment Parts

I saw a comment somewhere about packing the space behind the dust cover with brake grease, I assume the modern silicon based stuff. Not done this before, but it seems a good plan with no obvious downside? I guess brake grease could escape on to the pads if the dust seal fails....
