    Some bubbling

Looking for advice on whether to dive into this early, or leave until there are other areas of the car to look at at the same time. Piccie below is the lower front corner of the driver's door. I struggled to get a photo, as without very specific lighting the chamonix bubbles blend very well into...

    Suddenly blue smoke while idling

Timing covers (upper and lower) are on the front of the engine, covering the timing chain. The upper cover fixes to the head and the lower cover to the block. If the head is skimmed without the upper timing cover then the surface will have a step in it, causing issues The compression difference...

    Suddenly blue smoke while idling

Have you done a compression test? I think that has to be done soon, if you haven't already. The oiled plug on cyl 3 indicates a potential issue. If compression good and even across all 6 cylinders you have a stable base to work from, if it's down on one or more, then a leak down test is the next...

    de-humidification for garages

It's one of these: https://www.meaco.com/dehumidifier/home-dehumidifiers/meaco-dd8l-junior-dehumidifier-multi-award-winning the one thing I find annoying about it is that when I switch it back on it doesn't remember the settings from when I switched it off, so I have to reset the fan speed and...

    de-humidification for garages

I had noted rust spots blossoming on my garage's previous resident (mk2 Golf) and so bought an inside/ outside humidity meter to monitor humidity levels. At a basic level, this worked well as I was able to open the garage door if humidity outside was lower than inside. However during the UK...

Hi Simon, that's globalisation for you!! Cheers Keshav, I've attached some photos to show the general pitting on the silver and black areas, and a couple of dings I'd like to improve on. Obviously they're never going to be concours, but any tips to improve the blingyness is appreciated. They...

    Chrome polish product recommendation

I was just looking to polish my kidney grills, so this thread is very timely. Being uk based I doubt I can source either of these products. I was going to try brasso!! Is the kidney grill polished aluminium, or is it chromed? Thanks Drew

    Clutch release arm travel

that is an old one :-) I had to refresh myself on what I was doing then. Thanks for your efforts and your recall! what I was after was a measurement of the clutch release arm movement rather than that of the clutch pedal itself. I have a slight crunch on engaging reverse which could possibly be...

Allow wheels--Rial 16X8"-Do they fit OEM lug studs?

ah yes, missed that. Mine are 15" 7Jx15 up front (with 205mm width tyres), 8Jx15 (215mm tyres) at the rear. Clearance was fine at either end, but especially so at the rear

Allow wheels--Rial 16X8"-Do they fit OEM lug studs?

I don't know the offset, but my CSL had 8J Rials on the rear (7J on the front) when I bought it. I've since gone to factory 7Jx14 Alpinas I did not have to do anything to the studs, and I didn't have any clearance issues, on wheel arch lips or on the suspension. I have the wheels in my shed...
