    Atlantik blau

Good information Chris I have not tried to extract the info from the register, perhaps it´s easy. Another of my favourite colours is Turkis. How many of those do we have in the register....?

    Atlantik blau

Blumax is Atlantik !! No question about that. And yes, it is a single stage colour. I have a Nachtblau so I know this very well. OK, so you saw one last year. It was an early paint, used 1968-72, perhaps 73 but never common/popular.

    Atlantik blau

How many coupes in this colour do we know of, besides Blumax? I like the colour very much, and better than Nachtblau which I have and which is far more common. I am going to look at an automatic 3.0 CS in Atlantik next week. It´s in Germany, and minor detour as I drive from Switzerland to...

    Warning on WallothNesch Radiators

W&N reply ??!?! Hi Luis, did they come back with a reply? As far as placement of the element in the frame is concerned, there are at least 2 different radiators. One for cars with AC, which means the frame is full of radiator cores, 2 or 3 if I remember. Living in Europe, I am not too...

Battery Advice - for weekend car - 2800cs

    >74 cars The functioning of the driver´s door power window after the ignition key is removed, is something which I beleive the earlier cars did not have. An extra relay above the bonnet opening lever is associated with this function, I think... I may be wrong on both...

    Console power access question

"Stan´s acrylic prims" Don´t all cars have such a prism in the aperture close to the key entry? On at least one car I have put a small bit of black electric tape to cover part of the aperture as the light was annoying at night. Wonder if that car has lost its prism or the light is too strong...?

    manual steering box

Back to power steering There are a couple of options on the manual boxes, the difference being in the ratio, and hence how hard the car is to manoeuvre at parking. The original, early, CSLs had a box ending in 108 on the ZF manufacturing plate on the box. Manual boxed Bavarias, as you call them...

Wally's car in Jakarta is finished

Sensational car Well done! Does the bottom have any form of rust protection? Clear coat of some useful product? High humidity to watch out for, even when the car is not used.... Do you have good roads to drive the car on, in Indonesia?

Sitting lower in the driver´s seat

While 6ft2" I nowadays prefer to sit closer to the steering Wheel, rather than driving with straight arms. This means that the seat is slightly higher than when moving it further back. I would like to sit a bit lower, but have not come to a solution. Ideally I ought to remove the seat and do...

    fitting alu trim

Careful Be sure to not tighten them too much. Average strenght with 2 fingers is enough. No tools! The holes in the bodywork provide for a bit of adjustment, up and down, so as to align with the adjacent trim. Rear fender trim calls for the rear 1/4 light window mechanism to come out. I have...

    Tyres of 7 x 14

205s on 6" wheels I have had the 205s on stock 6" wheels for over 7 years and there are no issues whatsoever. In fact the dimensions of the current XWX in 205 are very, very close to the dimensions of the XWX in 195 that Michelin stopped producing around 1997.

    diff ratio info.

What gearbox do you have? The 3.64 with the 4-speed (or CR 5-speed) box will drive you crazy on the motorways. OK with the OD box, but if you come from 3.07 it will make a major difference going to 3.64. I have 3.45 with OD on a couple of 3L engined FI cars and that is OK. I prefer a higher...

    Tyres of 7 x 14

Xwx I have Michelin XWX 205/70 VR14 on all my cars with 14" wheels. Expensive, yes! but there is nothing close in all respect (other than price). Michelin makes 2 batches a year. The oldest ones on my cars are from 2005 and they show absolutely no sign of wear anywhere. I will use these tyres...

    Vent Window Removal Tips

Vent window mechanism I remove this (letting it "slip" down into the door). Then the vent window is much more free. Usually it can be pushed down, again in the 30deg position, against the rubber seal, to free the pin in the pivot on the large frame. Once or twice, I have had to drill out the...

Nice 900 mile trip over two days

900 miles today, going back My 365 HP/420Nm torque "group2" Taiga "CSL" needed to go back to Sweden, so I drove that one today. 14hrs of which I had a wonderful 2hr stretch between Frankfurt and Göttingen, on a pretty calm Autobahn. It is very hilly and has some broad stretches of 3 lanes, and...

Nice 900 mile trip over two days

Started yesterday late afternoon in southern Sweden. Spent the night in Celle in northern Germany, and got to Villars in Switzerland in time for dinner. Sundays are the best days in Germany with no trucks and very few buses. A soft 170 KM/106 MPH at 4000 was about as fast as I drove, but only...

    weatherstrip question

Trimming at the bottom I too have replaced many of these. I find the top profile (of the vertical quarter light seal)very good in resting against the main doorglass to roof rubber seal. I therefore cut off a few cm at the bottom, using a pair of sharp scissors or a fresh razor blade. The trick...

    Power Window Gear

Nylon gear removal Thanks, I have had them all open, to remove the 40 year old grease. Even the small lid at the axle top where a metal wheel turns in grease (and can be tightened via a screw from the top). I have just not bothered to press out the wheel, as none have been damaged. As I say...

    progressive rate springs

CSL springs from W&N I have these on several cars. I have come to the conclusion that they lower the car too much at the rear, even when using the triple dimple rubber pads. Even without a passenger, let alone several, or anything heavy in the trunk, the car is too low. I have reverted to...

    Power Window Gear

Removal and leaving windows slightly open I have had so many of these electric gear motors apart for cleaning and lubrication, but I have never removed the plastic wheel. I have tried once or twice, without using much force or time. How do you get them off the axle? Someone suggested leaving...
