    SOLD: 1971 Bavaria (Taiga)

I added a walkaround video to the linked photo album. For some reason Google isn't showing a thumbnail for the video so it's the big black box at the end of the album.

Bump...lowering price to $14,000. The car is just sitting in my garage and needs a good home.

    SOLD: 1971 Bavaria (Taiga)

Yep, still for sale in Maryland. I figured I'd bump the thread again soon since spring is coming, but John was kind enough to put in a good word.

    SOLD: 1971 Bavaria (Taiga)

Ultimately they want to make money, and they make money when cars sell. They've probably done the math and determined that they can make more money by having a higher percentage of cars sell, even it the average selling price is lower. Reserve price is a difficult thing to get right. A low...

    SOLD: 1971 Bavaria (Taiga)

I did talk to BaT early on but we couldn't agree on a reserve price. Unfortunately, the market for E3s is pretty small and the market for clean ones is really tiny.

    SOLD: 1971 Bavaria (Taiga)

SOLD - my 1971 BMW Bavaria in Ellicott City, MD. 6/27/2020 - SOLD. Taiga (originally Sahara) with brown interior, 4 speed manual transmission, and a non-original engine from another 2800/Bavaria (I’ve never been able to read the serial number off of it, I think it’s hidden by a hose?). The...

    COLOR THOUGHT..

My old tii was Riviera. It's a fantastic color--different in every light.

    COLOR THOUGHT..

Colors are so subjective. Personally, I feel like vintage color palettes are so much richer than what is commonly available today, and the good colors today are almost always metallics which I don't always like. BTW, older cars used single-stage paints that did not have a clear coat. Maybe...

    windshield seal update

Follow up... the W&N windshield fits well. Overall, I'd say it's a lot easier to install a windshield in a Bavaria than in a 2002.

    windshield seal update

I hope I can let you know the results in a few days. Mine is sitting on my hood currently while I wait to get 3 family members in the house at the same time so we can install it. The manufacturer for my windshield is NordGlass. Based on how the seal is fitting at this point (it seems a little...

    windshield seal update

A word of warning on getting windshields shipped to the US from W&N: UPS seems to take all the multiple-language "WARNING GLASS" tape on the boxes as a sign that they should find all the ways they can drop the package before it gets to you. UPS pretty much destroyed the first one they...

    windshield seal alternatives

So...if they make a run of the late seal, will they also make a run of the correct lower trim and corner pieces? As far as I can tell those are also not available so I'll still have a problem.

    What's my engine?

As long as the serial number is right (I can't read it very well from the picture), then yes, I think so.

    What's my engine?

I didn't notice the OP was from Madrid and assumed the US. So yeah, euro 733i from June 1977 makes total sense. The modern VIN schema was standardized in the late 1970's and made mandatory (at least in the US) for the 1981 model year, but I don't know how/when BMW made the transition worldwide.

    What's my engine?

BMW reused the last 7 digits of the serial number when they switched to the modern 17 digit VIN, so using realoem to look up pre-1981 serial numbers is rarely helpful. In this case, however, I think the model returned for the engine number may be correct (note though that realoem says 733i not...

    differential installation

On my Bavaria I think I was able to get 5 of the 8 bolts in pretty easily and then had to work at the last 3 (with the final one requiring the most amount of shoving, lifting, etc.). Are all the bolts and holes clean? Dirt would not be your friend here. I installed mine about 6 weeks ago, but...
