    MAPs ECUs and paint dots

thanks Thomas, as always I am running pertronix in the distributor, for the spark. It's quite old, but I've not heard of any specific issues with this contactless system. You are of course correct about the play in the distributor shaft, and that rebuild project is one for this winter. to tell...

    MAPs ECUs and paint dots

update: I have reset the valve clearances a bit tighter, to 0.25mm and checked the cam timing, which was spot on, of course  and then reset the ignition timing, which may well have been the cause of my problems. I will check this again, to double check my readings, but the engine...

    MAPs ECUs and paint dots

well, I've been busy. I have reset the valves to 0.3mm. Looking back at my file of stuff, it's actually been 4 years since I was last there, and some were a bit off, closer to 0.35 maybe, esp on the exhaust side. Idle bleed screw adjusted, and the idle is now stable at ~900rpm which seems like...

    MAPs ECUs and paint dots

thanks Thomas, I did those resistance tests earlier today and got 93 Ohms and 353 Ohms, and no shorts, so coils are good. I also tested the vac and that was all good too. I see no easy way to test the pair of internal aneroids though. With a LCR meter it is possible (I understand) to measure the...

    MAPs ECUs and paint dots

Will do Don, I was just under the oil filler cap checking my oiler bar (thanks for that heads-up also) and had the thought that it is a couple of years since I did the valve gaps. Will do that tomorrow. 1000rpm seems quite high, no? Well I have just checked spec and it is 850-1000rpm for a Euro...

    MAPs ECUs and paint dots

thanks Thomas, thanks Scott yes, sorry should have mentioned the work-up I did on the fuel system last year. I put a fuel pressure gauge on the CSV line and that measured the FPR was running at 2.0bar on the nose. I also had the injectors cleaned and flow balanced (and replaced all the hoses and...

    MAPs ECUs and paint dots

Hi all, My d-jet E9 has an overfuelling issue at idle, lumpy and rich. I think the fuelling is otherwise ok, in that the car pulls strongly without hesitation at full and part load. I've run through the basics, testing the ignition side of things (all seems fine except for some slight play in...

    Rear wheel spacers

I'm looking to do the same, however the only 5mm spacers I have seen (even the h&r ones) lack a wheel lip to centre the wheel. The spacers have a taper profile to centre the spacer on the hub, but there's no tapered lip to centre the wheel on the spacer. Did you find one with a lip, or did you...

New head bolts not locking rockers shafts in place - shafts free to move - causing misalignment of rocker arms??

Blast from the past! One of those bigcoupe threads was me and my old E24, 15 years ago. eek In my bodging, I used the standard "nut behind the plate" to hold the inlet rocker bars in place, and experimented with machining grooves in the rocker bars, to take a circlip (using the same circlip and...

Consumables - Checking with those wiser than me......

Keeping detailed lists of work done and parts replaced makes sense and is a valuable thing to do, as part of your project's history, and for the benefit of the wider group's reference. I can only comment on the bits of the car I myself have dug into (scratching the surface really), but the way...

E9 headlight Bulbs in the uk

I put LEDs in my E24 and the light pattern was so bad as to be really dangerous. This was a while back, and the tech may have improved, but I'd not put aftermarket LEDs in anything now. ....so I bought a set of cibie CSRs and good halogens and wow, all is daylight. Cibies now fitted in my E9.

    D-jet trouble shooting

Well I tried a number of things, and the one that made the difference was an adjustment to the waxstat in the warm up slide valve thing. This was passing air, very slightly, when the car was warm. Once this was tweaked the mixture was much much better. Idle CO levels are still a bit higher than...

City pack CSL in upcoming auction

Sold for £88k and JK's car didn't sell... either that was a good (cheap) buy, or something untoward in the rust department? Hope the new owner turns up here

    fuel leaking from engine

You can jumper the fuel pump at the relay underneath the rear seat, so you don't need to mix a fuel leak with a hot exhaust. I hope it's either the oring or the hose, both easy fixes Still keep a fire extinguisher to hand...

City pack CSL in upcoming auction

Yes, I'd spotted the dent, my CSL has one also, in about the same place, so it must be a city pack special feature (an extra £20k please!) Interesting about the door card blanks, my car has one blank per door, where (I assume the manual winders were changed to powered for the UK market), not...

https://www.silverstoneauctions.com/index.php?option=com_bidding&view=commission&layout=details&id=12680&pn=1&el=12680&pp=50 Has this one been discussed? Looks like it needs a clean, but on the upside it looks to be in nice unrestored condition, except for the steering wheel (what's that all...

WTB: E9 Front Calipers for Vented Rotors

Hi, if you're in Europe, I also have a set, partially stripped (pistons out, bleed nipples removed) and ready for a rebuild kit. pistons are good enough to reuse in my opinion Edit: I think you're west coast US...
