Hi All,
I am considering using a 123/BMW-6-R-V-IE distributor on a '74 3.0CSi. I know I have seen a thread but cannot find again. Does anyone have any exerience. Does the lack of vacuum advance cause any isses.
Thank you,
Seán.

Yes, I've been running the 123 6-R-V-IE since 2016, has been rebuilt once at 16K miles. When I bought mine they didn't offer the Bosch Helix milled spindle. The added expense of the milled helix is worth the extra cost. I have the switched version & recommend the set it & forget it philosophy.

Have run a 123 in my 1973 2002 Tii & 1968 1600 Cabriolet.

+1

Been running a 123/BMW unit almost a year now. My example was before the Bosch Helix spindle offer. I have had no issues since install (=3 track days and various touring miles).

Thank you all for for the input. Is it is plug and play. Thanks again, Seán.

You should preload the dist with a safe curve and then follow the install directions. Pretty straightforward but do confirm the reported timing is correct against actual. Mine was off by 3 degrees in my O2. Once that’s done, you can modify the curve to your desire.

yes, manually check the 123 timing number at idle with a timing gun like old school, adjust the distributor to match the 123 if necessary (and probably will be)

One of the great things you can do with the 123 Bluetooth is set granular rpm tiers which can have specific advance. For example setting advance to 0° for 0-600 rpm. That will make it easier to start and then from 600-1000 another level like 10° and so forth. It's very useful...
