1967 BMW 2000 Neue Klasse 4-Speed - BaT and club member's car....

$12,250 in the current market is about what I expected. Buyer is local and we‘re meeting at his bank tomorrow.
Bidding at the end was nice to see.
Big Thanks to all forum members for your kind words here and on BaT.
The e9, 2002 and e46 remain we’ll see what the future brings. ;)

Let me know about your E46, looking for a car for my son. If it's an M3 I'm not interested, too much power for a 16 year old.

E46 is a great choice for your son. I love them. My 04 330ci convertible is not for sale. E46 330ci coupes are currently a great values. Just find one with a good maintenance history.

My NK went to a dealer here in Portland.
He’ll likely try to flip it. He has connection in Europe so it may end up there.

Thanks! A nice e46 is at the top of our list :)

Yeah, I love e46s. We bought a one owner wagon for our youngest daughter to drive in college a few years ago. It was a perfect little car for her. I sold if for more than I paid for it and gave the money to her for a down payment on her new Mazda CX30.

I sold my E36 M3 to a guy who then gave it to his 17 year old son to drive. That car had high mileage (I drove it everywhere), but was more or less pristine. The kid crashed it more than once. I saw it a couple if years after the sale at my mechanic friend's shop. It was a wreck.

Please don't sell/give great cars to kids. They need to drive a piece of shit Plymouth Duster for a while before having access to a nice car that they can ruin.

My kids drove nothing but old BMWs in high school and college. My daughter Megan had two e39 wagons, and Abby had a 530 and the e46 wagon. I liked them because they were all amazing cars but cheap, very safe, and I could a lot of the maintenance. I, of course, personalized them with different BBS wheels. The first wagon was black, I added a M5 front bumper, sport seats, and staggered parallels. It was a great looking car but Megan could have cared less. Anyway, they both kind of revolted around the same time saying they were tired of driving beater BMWs. I told them they could buy what they want when they graduated. Now, Megan has a CrossTrek, and Abby has the Mazda - and both seem to love their cars.

Volvo 240 is the answer...
It certainly was for us. Both my kids first cars were Volvo bricks a 92 & 93 (last year). Not very fast and very safe. Later models had ABS and driver airbags. They’re tanks and very hard to break. I’ve never seen a car produce heat inside as fast as a 240 in the dead of winter.

Years and years ago, wait, scratch that...decades and decades ago on Car Talk the Brothers Tappet opined that all used Volvos cost $6000. If you buy one for $2000, you'll have to put $4000 into it. Buy one for $6000 you should be good to go.

That’s funny. We went with 240’s based on their recommendations on best cars for new drivers.
I miss those guys.

Or....in my case, let them drive whatever they want, as long as they pay for it! I bought a 2002 at 16 years old. Once the kids pay for it with their own money, trust me, they will cherish it. That has been lost on generations post Gen X.

Yes, that is probably more the point I was trying to make. I had to buy my first car, and was required to have a job so I could pay my own insurance as well. My wife had to buy her first car and pay for her insurance. We don't/won't have kids, but can't imagine a world where I buy them a car and pay for their insurance.
