I am looking to TRADE my beautiful BMW 2800cs for a GOOD Volvo p1800 of equal or negotiating value. I am not interested in a 1800ES wagon.

That's kind of an odd request. I never thought much of the Volvo P1800's - they are kind of ungainly looking, mechanically crude with cast iron, 4 cyl, cam-in-block engine, SU carbs, 4-speed trans w/ electric overdrive, solid rear axle .... pretty low tech compared with and e9. Sure, the P1800ES (shooting brake) version is sort of cool looking, but that's not what this guy wants.

The Sports Car Market Price Guide lists P1800E's at $9,500 - $17,500 depending on the model and condition, while they show a range of $9,500 - $14,000 for 2800 CS, so I suppose they are roughly comparable in market value. Obviously I'm biased, but I wouldn't think of exchanging my e9 for a Volvo.

Jay, I beg to differ. The P1800 is an absolutely gorgeous car, and in my opinion, much prettier than the E9 Coupe. Next time when you see a nice early P1800 (only the early 1800's were called P1800), take some time to examine the lines, look at the bull horn front bumper, the hockey stick like side moldings, the egg crate front grill. It is as close I will ever get to a Ferrari 250 GT Boano. True, from a mechanical and from a driving-pleasure point of view, there is no comparison, the Volvo falls way short. SCM can list whatever they want, I would not even considering my 1-previous-owner, 32,000 original miles 1962 P1800-A for anything less than twice their high estimate. The same holds for my 2800CS, and then some.

I already have both ('72 CS, '66 1800S), so I guess this isn't for me. :)

Oh... And both the BMW e9 coupes and the Volvo 1800s are beautiful cars.
