1972 2002 tii on BAT

I get that its Rob Siegel but if you look past that and the fact it's a nice color and original owner, this Tii is a rusty, drive-train swap, beat up driver from the Northeast. I don't get all the rapturous comments. Another example of BaT's fickle nature...go figure!

This is the first place my eye goes on any tii…

I don't think that car is as bad as some of you think. Very well represented so there shouldn't be many surprises.

I agree - it is a decent quality car that (I think) isn't trying to be something it isn't. I had a 2002 for almost 30 years. Also Fjord.

One thing - There have never been any tii replacement noses available (as far as I can remember). If the nose was replaced - it would have been a carb nose installed. The listing is very transparent that there is a snorkel there - so I think it is not an issue. If it were a 'better' car - then that would be a consideration. But with all the other tweeks and twiddles this car has - it just is another one of 'the things' about this car. If you were to dive into the documentation that there is - you will probably find details on it (I figure). Either way - Hope it finds a good home.

If the nose was replaced
I didn't read the comments or the description other than it's a "one family owned car". Shouldn't they know if the front panel was replaced, or did they say it was?

Rob reported the nose has been replaced.

No argument with the transparency of the ad. Commendable and the effort Mr Siegel is going to help the widow is a testament to humanity. BUT...you are buying the car, and nothing else. There are any number of Tii's for sale currently in much better condition.. Extrapolating the ending sale price from the current 20k bid is a flawed science but with that many days left and all the glowing comments who knows....

So I guess that explains Chris and Paul getting twice as much for their parts. ;)

Here's a pretty good analysis of the "BaT Bump" by Hagerty...

"...the premium paid for vehicles on Bring a Trailer has drastically shot up in the last 18 months. In 2021 so far, vehicles bought elsewhere and "flipped" on BaT have sold for 24 percent more than their previous sale price, up from 9 percent in 2020 and 4 percent in 2019."

The article is from October of 2021 and I would guess the "bump" is even bigger now.

Yes, Rob posts his full description in the comments as the BaT writers inane cut & paste is unreadable.
Not only is it the right thing to do to fully describe the car you are selling including any and all "warts", but it also builds confidence in prospective bidders that the seller knows the car, isn't hiding anything, and that you'll get what is pictured and described. This is (unfortunately) rare in the vintage car market and is worth a premium to many bidders.

Those sellers that just let the terrible BaT description lay there and don't take every opportunity to interact with the comments can appear to be telling (and maybe showing) as little as possible with hopes that bidders will think more of the car than it actually is. Most bidders aren't that stupid.

It would be interesting to see a breakdown of the condition of the vehicles. BaT is an advantage when you have an above average vehicle and can show it off with hundreds of photos. Versus, I just saw an older G-Wagen Mercedes sell on BaT last month and two weeks later resold on Copart for a 50% profit. It was rusty, and it showed on BaT. Ten photos on Copart taken by a yard person didn't show any rust at all.

There isn't even a slice of glass in the transpanancy of Rob's write-up. I have never seen a reveal and a history like this. Amazing.

Rob shares everything, good and bad which is rare. But this Tii still has many rust issues which the potential buyers will not see in their euphoria to out-bid others.
