1972 3.0 CSI in Los Angeles

This car has been on ebay for the last couple of months if i remember it had like 34000 reserve looks nice form the pictures

I've seen it.

I went by and took a look. Although I'm no mechanic - it did look quite nice. Started right up and purred. That said - this shop has it sitting outside behind an iron gate fence on Lincoln. It's not in the best situation.

With my tired old eyes- somehow I missed the mileage.

I've been watching this one each time it gets re-posted on EBay. Seems it always gets bid up to around $26-$27,000 and is a "no sale" each time. It has been listed at least 6-8 times already. Either it is the wrong sale venue and they should try a live auction or they should get the hint that the market has spoken and the car is a $26-$27,000 car and let it go.

After reading the ad 3 X -

I am choking on the hyperbole ....

GORGEOUS RUST FREE

RARE EUROPEAN MODEL

West Coast Classics are proud to present an absolutely exceptional example of this rare an always garaged example of the iconic series 6 cylinder 3.0L 3.0 CSi model, a rare and highly desirable internationally collectible BMW in a most desirable dark blue color combination of original dark blue color paint with a matching dark blue cloth interior
was an extremely handsome and elegant two-door coupe
on a smart cigar shaped body and with a light and airy interior thanks to its pillarless look with lots of glass.
It was a brilliant evolution from the Hofmeister styled 4 cylinder BMW 2000CS coupe, which was enlarged to hold the powerful and extremely refined BMW M30 straight 6 engine, used in the E3 sedan and with fuel injection boosting performance still further in late 1972, giving the car the ability to accelerate as quickly as its smaller rival, the Porsche 911. The car had a new and longer front end to accomodate the large six cylinder engine and the model was also celebrated as the ultimate superb European high speed grand touring car.

The model was absolutely beautiful with a neat four lamp face headlight section, bodies still supplied by Karmann and beautifully trimmed with typical German high quality materials including a wooden dashboard and bucket seats, a revised independent front suspension with MacPherson front struts and a trailing arm rear plus anti-roll bars both ends; this car was indeed quite simply a work of art. The The dramatic and stunning aerodynamics for a modern day sports car was where where the car scored best with the E9 platform, never more so than with the 3.0CSL homologation special, with its legendary light weight aluminum body panels instead of steel, which helped prove very successful in racing, especially in European Touring Car Championship and the Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft. This helped to establish BMW's status as a sporty

the Batmobile' due to its enormous fenders, huge rear spoiler and wind deflectors mounted on its hood; this is one of the most iconic classic early year BMW's ever built and certainly one of the best looking cars of its generation!

This particular model is finished in its original and beautiful factory color combination of dark blue exterior paint with its all original matching dark blue interior, all of which is in quite exceptional and mostly all original condition, apart from one repaint! There are no signs of any accidents or damage or previous rust! A truly obviously always babied and pampered example if there ever was one which had been owned for many years by one proud California owner before we recently purchased the car from him. The cars older repaint in its original dark blue color is still in quite beautiful condition with only very minor imperfections noticeable only upon close inspection. The matching dark blue and all original cloth interior is also in beautiful condition with virtually no signs of any major wear!

The car drives exactly like such a low original mileage and well maintained model should and must be seen and driven to be truly appreciated! The 3.0 litre fuel injected engine is extremely strong and powerful and the four speed manual transmission has a very smooth transmission shift through all the gears and the temperature always remains cool!

You will surely look long and hard to find a finer example of this exceptionally clean and cherished and very rare and internationally desirable 1972 BMW 3.0 CSi coupe model for the ultimate time warp driving experience in this most desirable of color combinations! Garaged?

I love that the description of the car is that it has been "always garaged" - yet it's sitting outside next to Lincoln just five blocks from the Pacific. Yes - I know that's quite arid - but between the sun beating down on this car and the chance of weather - it's quite ironic it went from an always garaged state to sitting outside for weeks now. I first saw it outside well over a month or so ago.

Outside car

I let my daughter use my 3.0cs for 2 months while she had her car fixed. She worked 5 blocks from the ocean and when I got it back it had some new rust bubbles. These cars are not made to be outside at night near the ocean.

Nah, she went surfing every day at noon and drove it into the sand. The surfboards on the roof dripping salty water into the car did not help. Look for sea shells in the trunk.

Not sure where you are but I am convinced the Atlantic is worse than the Pacific in terms of the ocean spray killing cars.

After looking at the under hood photos combined with what I recently discovered with extensive photos & video of before/during/after rust hunting in the front fenders, I can tell you with 100% certainty that the car IS NOT "Rust Free" as the ad suggests.
