1972 BMW Bavaria on BAT - Agave w/ nice Tan/Saddle Vinyl Interior (not Leather as ad states)

@AustinOski has one more data point to back up his e3 trend observations.
Yeah, but I would *not* have predicted this price. Would have put it in the high 40’s, especially given the visually off-putting undercarriage. I guess that’s just me not keeping-up with the market!

How many here who have long said, ”I love my E3, I’d never sell it” are now thinking…?
Another E3 owner on this site that is a good friend of mine just said, "Shane, aren't you glad you didn't sell a year or so ago?" And, I always say, these cars going up like they have been are a double edged sword. Great If you are selling, not if you are buying. E9's are now out of reach for most people, so they look like they are flocking to the better E3 BMW.....Bwah ha ha ha. They are starting to get some love, however, I'm not doing cartwheels. This will eventually all come crashing down. I'd rather keep my rare bird and stay part of "The Club."

I would say that your sporty e3 is the missing link between the e3 and the e9. I think it would do quite well on BaT. But Don’t sell!!! :D

FWIW, he won't see return on that car for a long time. But that's probably NOT why he bought it, so good on him. I've never in my life purchased a car thinking about
any ROI and certainly wasn't considering it for that E3 for $60,000. But being old has it's advantages, like having real perspective and some discipline of restraint. ;)

Truth is, it's a seller's market for several reasons, not least because of a buying audience with ready cash that's been cooped up and haven't spent
on anything in over eighteen months.

For many US markets, the same has overheated residential real estate, pricing out new buyers. Stay tuned... it'll correct, as it always does.

Well, I just knew the value of E3’s would go up this fast when I bought mine last year. Kidding, of course.

What’s this restraint you’re talking about? I bought 4 cars in the second 1/2 of last year and I’m no kid. And, you just bid $60k for an E3! :)

I won’t repeat all my arguments here, again, but I don’t think it’s a bubble. To also use a real estate analogy. How many time have any of us said something like, “Oh, that guy paid $500k for that house. He totally over paid.” Five years later, similar houses are going for $800k or $1M.

Good cars are like good houses in good areas - they’ll just keep going up over time. People have just finally figured out how good the E3 is!

Oh, and lastly, I’m back on the road but I’m still going to buy more cars. Just need to sell a couple. I swear I will before I buy more. I think. Maybe.

You might be right, but if not it won't matter to you will it? You're enjoying the hunt and acquisition for the right reasons!

I also bid $82K on that lovely Euro M635. The E3 out of a little nostalgia, the M because I sold my CSL last year and thought a more plush replacement would be nice.

But having also sold our 3.0CS on BaT last week, and down to just a pair of Michelotti 700s, I cop to a desire to fill a spot in the fleet with another BMW. ;)

As to whether this is a bubble? You never pay too much, just too soon. I'm really a Porsche guy with a nice little group, from 356S Notch to 914/6GT.
Bought my first longhood cheap and still have it, and have turned down substantial 6-figure offers for my '67 S. Still, there was a minor correction on P-cars, and
this time will be no different. Personally, my plan is to finish our beloved VW bus, pare down to 7 or 8 cars that can be used as they should be, and add something
Italian to the mix. When that time comes, the right car will appear and cash wins. There's nothing more fun than driving vintage as regular transportation!

That fancy green four-square E3 woulda been a sweet garage mate for this little guy, don'tcha think?

That 356S Notch is SICK! LOVE IT! Love the Marchal sticker on the fender...great! Love the two-tone on the fender and roof. Since I started this thread and auction is over and you had to throw in the P-Cars.....I guess I will tease with my new favorite baby. Been keeping on down low for the most part but I've had so much fun driving it, it's hard to believe I paid less for my Porsche a few months ago than this guy did for the E3.....crazy and by a lot less I might add, especially figuring the 10% buyers fee.

And it is in immaculate condition, inside/out....motor, couldn't be happier. Hard driven but very well taken care of 1989 Silver Anniversary Edition, limited production, I have ALL the original exterior and interior bits......All I can say is it is super fun to drive. 80's Porsche's have been taking off too lately on BAT, especially older SC's. Like you said, good cars and homes will always hold their values! You will always have a "pot to piss in" and one "to scare the piss outa ya!" Words of advice from Uncle Shane......

Statistically the top 3-4 sales would probably be classified as outliers. Could be the start of a trend or could be what Russell describes. Time will tell.

In any case, if you have been thinking about selling your E3, I'd say now is the time. :)
