vin 2263273 - its another oldenzaal resto. car is in Berkeley, CA - bid is already at 60k

Posted by the seller..."The injected E9 was never sold new in the United States so these cars are relatively rare here and all were personal imports (rather than being imported by BMW North America)."

???

Montana title and plates............................. Tread carefully potential CA buyers. I owned a 73 CSI but it had CA registration and plates ( no registration problems whatsoever at the DMV).

@shermanmartinez - CA buyers will have some issues. Even though the car is a 1972, it is a Euro (Grey Market) car. There are others on here with more experience with that process than me. I know they need to be Federalized now and there may be other issues regarding getting it registered.

Also, the Montana LLC is no sales tax so a lot of collectors use it for that reason alone, even when buying a new car. Mine is a '74, I have a Montana LLC and I get Permanent Registration as another bonus. Not sure when the cutoff for that is.

Don't let the Montana LLC get in the way, this looks like a great car. As a matter of fact, you may want to look into setting one up. Nice thing is, where I live, I don't stick out as there are a ton of Montana plates around here. All totally legal anyways.

Thanks but no thanks… California is getting tough on this.

Strange front upper strut mount details, check pictures #122 and #168. Left/driver strut is centered/flush in mounting area. Right/pass. strut appears to have a left/driver side fixed camber plate mounted, moving the top of the strut outward. Maybe needed to correct alignment specs.

Best, krauser

What's funny Don is a lot of the cars at auction houses have Montana plates on them. Sadly, a lot of buyers get excited about the vehicle and press the "buy" button and don't find out how much extra money they are going to have to pay until they try to register the car.

I wonder about your ‘73 Csi - I also had a ‘73 Csi in Polaris here in Cali.

Many many years ago- it was carbureted with an automatic!

My 73 Csi was baikal with saddle . It was a manual. 14x7 20 spoke OZ/MSW alloys. A rare three spoke Momo steering wheel that was somewhat like a Nardi.

Add that to the list of getting out of CA I guess? What was once the best state in the union....Not anymore!

Sheriff here would never do that, search warrant for a Montana LLC plated car...give me a break... I was shooting guns and someone called the Sheriff. They wouldn't come out unless someone was hit with a bullet. Waste of time and resources they said...good for them!

You aren’t going to run as the new mayor of Berkeley????

A $350,000.00 RV bought in California is taxed at over $35,000.00. For $35,000.00 yes indeedy they will come to your house.

It’s about the money!

Every professional athlete in the country is taxed by the state they play in while on the road.
A baseball player gets a W-2 for every state where he played during the season.

It’s about the money!

And for many years if your local sheriff thought a person had a big box of cash in their house from drug dealing that they could confiscate the sheriff would have said- We are on our way!

It’s always about the money!!

Last time I was in Berzerkeley was at a Grateful Dead show in the late 80's. Haven't been back since, it was crazy then, it is crazy x's 20 now. No thanks!

But just because people or LEO's don't "like" the Montana LLC's, doesn't mean it is not legal. Look at all the companies domiciled in Delaware for instance. No difference really. All I am saying is just because the owner has a Montana LLC, doesn't mean there is anything wrong with the car. This car looks like it's in great shape and in need of a new caretaker. Don't let the Montana LLC deter you.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink I guess...The Montana LLC may be the only way to register a grey market car in CA these days, someone with some first hand knowledge is welcome to chime in. I just heard it got a lot harder with a Euro Spec. But not due to the out of state LLC.

I bought my CSi turd from California.

Not sure how it got registered before I bought it and brought it to WA state.

I wonder if a grey car was PREVIOUSLY registered in CA, if it's kind of grandfathered in if one was to try to register it again???
