Hello all,

Sadly, I have come to the decision to sell my 1973 3.0 CSi. I had big plans to do a restoration on this coupe doing most of the work myself when I bought it in 2006; however, since I bought it I have deployed three times and never had a chance to get started. Now, I have orders to Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey and I again won't have the time or facilities to work on this special car. Another reason I am selling is that I have anther coupe which is coming with me to school after gets some engine work at Dynotech in Oceanside, CA.

The coupe that I have for sale is Fjord with blue leather, Alpinas, and Nardi steering wheel. When I bought it, I had a 3.5L from an '88 735i dropped in it along with a 5spd. Engine management is via 1.3 Motronic. Beefier sway bars had already been added as had shorter springs and bilsteins. This car is fast, fun, and reliable! All engine work was completed by Carl Nelson's shop and is top quality. This is a $15,000+ conversion (I have the receipts)! I have owned four coupes and the modifications that were done to this one brings a whole new level of performance to these cars. Recently, I visited Monterey on a house hunting trip and rented a 2010 Mustang (V6); my coupe feels infinitely more sporty than that new car despite it being 37 years its senior.

There is a flip side: Rust is rearing its ugly head on the sunroof, front left lower quarter panel, some around the rear window, scaly rust in the spare tire well, and the worst being that the front driver side floor pan drainage plug rusted through (I have pics that I will post online or send direct to you on request). Also, the interior is shot: the dash is cracked and seats have dry rotted. On the drivability side, the only thing wrong is that the steering pulls to the right and the signal lights are not working.

Make no mistake this car is a project, but it is reliable and drivable right now to enjoy. Despite the imperfections, the paint is shiny and the car brings compliments wherever I take it. I want this car to go to someone on this board who will appreciate it and hopefully get it back to the level that it deserves given the outstanding driveline that has already been completed. Check out the asking price for coupes with this engine work are going for; Coupeking has one for $60K! This will go on ebay soon without response from those on this forum for a much more reasonable sale price somewhere in the low teens.

thanks,

Walter
