Attached is a view of the driver side at the rear seat bulkhead. There is a two wire connector, ,as shown, I don't know what the wires are for - installing the carpet - can anyone please advise.
Brown tends to be ground in BMW world. Try a circuit tester between the connector and chassis. If there is continuity Robert est votre oncle!
Quite what they are supposed to earth I have no idea.

Simufly meant to say Brown is GROUND in the BMW world, thus both terminals in that plug should have continuity to any chassis ground.
If you look closely at the wiring diagram in your owners manual, all of those connectors are illustrated. Double ground is unusual; you should be able to spot this.
That would be my guess as well, although the passenger seat has only 2 wires, maybe it joins with the driver seat one. I hid my wires under the carpets so don't have access to them.
That's a good supposition as there are leads. I have not installed the belts as yet guess I'll also forgo the warning system and hide the wires under the carpet. Thanks all!
Now that we have determined the use of the connector, how have you handled the seat belt warning light that is mounted on the dash top? There is a hole cut in the dash - I have the light fixture - is there a elegant way to not use the light?
MOUNT IT AND WIRE IT FOR SOMETHING ELSE IF YOU WANT
IT LOOKS GOOD THERE
WIRE TO OIL LIGHT , BRAKE LIGHT
HIGH BEAMS -WHATEVER
I LEAVE IT OFF
IF YOU DONT MIND THE VIEW
PUT GAUGES
I think someone on the 2002faq installed a temp gauge or something in it, otherwise you’ll have a hole unless you recover your dash pad. As much as I hate it I just live with it as an example of period correct govt intrusion.
