As I have now relocated in Japan. It is my plan that Japan will now be my primary residence with trips back to the States approximately 2 to 4 times a year. My 1974 3.0 CSA that I have owned for the last 40 years is still available and its still looking for a new caretaker. It was offered on Bring A Trailer, around September last year, bid to $64,500 ($67,725 with BAT commission) but did not meet my reserve of $85,000. Full description and photos are still on Bring A Trailer. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1974-bmw-3-0cs-63/ Not exactly sure what the market condition is right now, but I will be in Los Angeles for a just a few week starting July 1st, if anyone is interested and would like to see the car in person. I’m still looking for around $85K, but will be seriously consider reasonable offers before I head back to Japan again. DM for additional information if you interested. Please pass the word around. Thanks

Hi, Also relocated (back and forth) to Japan (Tokyo/Nagano). About to bring my car to Japan…have you considered, or did you sell it? Anyhow happy to meet another (ex-?) E9 owner in Japan… Greg Adams

Still have it. I going to bring one of my cars, but waiting until I find a place to buy here or find enclosed parking close to where I live.

What is the other car? If you plan to ditch the E9 we are curious about that :).

First Porsche I bought in 1974...a 1973 911t. That's the car that's coming to Japan. I've had the E9 for over 40 years, I now need to find a suitable caretaker that can enjoy it as I have.

It’s a nice car with great wheels! Because it’s an automatic transmission you are going to have to be patient. Automatic e9 buyers don’t come along that often.
Know that an automatic transmission to manual transmission swap is $10,000 at a good shop and every good shop has a line to get in. Auto to manual swaps are a lot of work- we actually turn down the job.

IMHO - the high bid you got on BAT was a reasonable offer for a carbed automatic transmission e9 at that time.

Thank you for your comments. I really would like to find a good home for the Car. It has been a great car, just hope someone else can now enjoy. May reconsider put it back on BAT over the summer.

In the mean time - you can (if you are a member) place a listing with the BMWCCA and their online marketplace. Free to club members and might be worth it - as Don pointed out, an automatic E9 has a limited market. I have a couple of friends who have knee problems and, even thought they are VERY much auto enthusiasts - they can't drive manuals. If they were to get into an E9 - it would have to be a car like yours.

Good luck....

Thanks for the suggestion. Might give it a try. Thanks again.

I tried FB Marketplace. A bit disappointing. I had several people who seemed to be interested. ALL after corresponding, requested I provide a Vehicle Report. All provided Links. After doing a bit of research and determined a couple were flagged as non legit and that this is some type of scam. Also found out of the top three Inspection reporting firms non will do reports of vehicles prior to 1981.

Yes, that’s one of the new scams out there. They want you to do a ”report” from their preferred site. 70 bucks or whatever.

Waste of your time for sure.

Where does the $85k number come from? How did you determine that value?
I thought a fair base to start, considering what I have observed in the market. My car is definitely not at the highest and definitely not at the bottom. Considering the cost to do much of the repairs necessary to get a car to a where I thought mine is at, its was a good starting point.

One can always negotiate; you can always come down, rarely if at any time does the price go up once a price is listed (non-auction style). I don't even like to say OBO after a price is listed, the buyer already feels like there is a lot of room to counter. If, after a while I get no action, then I just lower price in certain increments until it is a "firm" price. It's an art for sure...It's a great looking coupe to me.
