1975 Euro CSA on BaT

Do you believe the collector car market isn't softening (or hasn't softened)?
I absolutely believe it’s happened. It happened as soon as the threat of money becoming more expensive appeared. I do believe it has affected certain cars more than others. I think something truly special will still bring the money as seen with the red Mk2 GTI and also the E21 B6 2.8 that just ended. Both of those are excellent examples of cars with insanely high attrition rates. I’m also sure that with what the cryptocurrency market has been doing that has reined in the spending to a degree as well.

My comments here are simply referencing the idea that when lower-end cars with significant needs come up for sale, they don’t do well for obvious reasons, then people use that as evidence to say the market is soft and cars aren’t meeting reserve.

That’s not to say that if a truly great coupe sells today, it probably sells for 10s of thousands less than it would have in 2020 or 2021, but I think it’s unfair to apply auction results of cars with low quality work covering up deficiencies to the coupe market as a whole. I think it exaggerates the situation.

Looks like the bottom of the barrell is upon us now....

I think the market for marginal cars is not reaching excessive heights like they have done recently. Those cars are coming back down to more reasonable (?) levels.
Exceptional vehicles (I think) have maintained their high values and - maybe? - be seeing an increasing value as time moves on. I see this in the market for 911 values. I am sure the E9's are similar.

RNM at $38k.

I think given how the rust that's poking out, along w/the goo in the floor pans/corners, the seller should have sold it for that price:

@teahead - JINX! LOL posted same time.

I think the seller should have taken the money. RNM at $38,500 (which could have even been a fat finger, surprised it got that high). BaT crowd is fickle, and I think for good reason on this car. With not much in the way of owner interaction, even saying he is going to do a few things to look into the VIN situation and not following through; this won't sell for much more than that final BaT bid privately. Just my 2 cents like usual.

Sellers don't understand sometimes that when people make comments and need clarification, they are really trying to help the seller. I don't think it happens too much for people to think it will hurt the sale to their benefit, especially if there is a reserve. "No reserve" then that might go on more often than I'd like to think.

Non-engaged seller doomed this “sale”. He could not verify the VIN on the firewall. A questionable VIN plate is all he could show. That doesn’t inspire bidder confidence. No videos what so ever.
There are experienced BAT sellers in the NY area he could have used to rep the car for him. He would have gotten a better result.
Soft heads yield a soft market.

Seller didn’t even attempt to address the VIN concerns. Post a pic of the area where the VIN is supposed to be, even if you can’t find it. Either they knew it would only hurt the auction, or they were lazy. There is nothing more annoying than a lazy seller, especially when they set unrealistic reserves.
