Hi Guys,
I know this is an E9 forum but I have a question on BMW 2002. I have found a 2002 for sale in my country (Oman). The guy claims it is 1975 Alpina. Does anyone know if there were any Alpina 2002 and if there were, did they have carburettor or fuel injection? I would like to buy it if it is genuine Alpina.

Kind Regards,
Hussein

hello Hussein, the quick answer to your question is yes, there were Alpina 2002's - early ones were carb and later ones were injected. at that time, it was mostly parts that you purchased from an Alpina dealer. ask if the seller has any communication from Alpina authenticating anything such as an engine number. also ask the seller who did the Alpina work and when it was done. Alpina conversions were sometimes done on older cars. keep in mind that Alpina didn't do many cars 'in-house' during this time period. if a car has proper documentation of work done by Alpina in Buchloe ... you have found something worthwhile ... but keep in mind, this is rare. you should reachout to @eastsideM3, he knows as much as anybody i know of on this subject.

Thats a "frankenstein"
turbo fenders and decals, 1 carb, as written tii seats.
Looks nice, but, thats everything, but not a Alpina.

Breiti
That's what I thought. I will see it on Sunday and will probably take it for a test drive if he allows me.

i don't see anything that is Alpina except possibly the rear spoiler. don't think any Alpina engine would have a single carb. the seats look like 320i seats recovered with Motorsport fabric with the tii embroidery. early Alpina used the Scheel seat as i remember.

a few things that Alpina cars might have had
- hot engine
- Alpina steering wheel
- Alpina suspension
- Alpina fabric seats
- Alpina wheels
- Alpina air dam

found this info on 2002.co.uk
there were several kits -
- A1 = warmed over 2002 with twin 40ddh solex carb / 264d cam - 115 hp
- A2 = modified head, 10:1 compression, 300d cam, twin 45ddh solex - 150hp
- A2s = same as A2 except KS racing pistons + larger exhaust valves - 158 hp
- A3 = same engine as A2s except twin Weber DCOE with Alpina intake manifold
- A4 = updated tii engine w/ tuning parts from A2 + A2s to produce 160 and 169 hp
- A4s (most powerful)

to all modified engines, a tubular exhaust manifold was added
optional close ratio 5 speed with 4.11:1 LSD
suspension was uprated / lower springs - semi-trailing arms were reinforced as were front spindles.
thicker anti roll bars were added (front / rear) and steering rack quickened to 12.8:1
vented front discs were added
