262/265 ball bearing

When I looked into rebuilding a Getrag 265 i found out that besides the special hydraulic presses needed for bearing removal/installation, the bearings were either unobtanium or ridiculously expensive which is why you don't ever see them offered for sale rebuilt.

Well I hope something can be found, my CR dogleg is out at the moment and away for new bearings as it was a bit grumbly,

Very very hard to find this special ball bearing. I have contacted Metric Mechanic to see if they have any alternatives.

bearings

I have rebuilt several 5 speeds including a dogleg cr 5 speed for my coupe and have just taken the numbers off of the old bearings and gone to a bearing supply store to get new ones. Sometimes they have to be ordered as they are sometimes not stocked, but I've always gotten them in a day or two. I think the last ones I got came from McGuire Bearing Company. Also check with Carl Nelson as I buy all of my syncronizer rings from him and he may have bearings as well. Good luck, Leroy

I will check all the sources mentioned above and give a feedback. The actual bearing has an extra flange that makes it special. I got out the old bearing with a lot of fiddling. It was completely useless afterwards. I regret that I started the job as I possibly could limit the radial movement by adding extra shims since the bearing thrust is a separate part.

Hi!
Some update:
This ball bearing is as seldom as the crown jewels. Have not been able to get in touch with the professionals (recommended by members) who work with Getrag gear boxes. They protect their secrets .... BUT I was saved by google. The FAG number led me to a buy/sell site in France. With the help of a French speaking friend I got in touch with the seller in south-east France. The roller bearing is on it´s way to Norway. Maybe it´s the last one in the world .......
