2800 Head

Help! Our 2800 head is cracked as we imagined and can not be repaired. It is the reason that it was taken off the road in 1981. The block looks pretty good though and might need only a hone or first oversize pistons which are available.

We need a 1969 or 1970 date stamped head for the 2800, does anyone have a source? I have checked with Carl, Peter and Don. This car is too original to put a later head on it. Thank you.

i do have a 2800 head that might fulfill your requests
 
This what an early head looks like, note 70 and casting number and low oil pressure sending hole.

I called a guy here in WA. His name is Dan, some may know him. I'm pretty certain he has some, as he is a very strong advocate for swapping them out. He won't sell them because it is "illegal to knowingly sell a defective part", and he could lose his business license and get sued. LOL. He kept going but you get the idea. Sorry I tried. Maybe some folks in WA that have done business with him over the years might have better luck.

don't buy from him - make a trade with him ... okay, so your trade is green pictures of dead presidents that have a monetary equivilent.
 
Why wouldn't you put a later head on it? Aren't the later heads better for cooling (thicker walls?)? Early heads are notorious for cracking from what I understand.
 
Yes but he likely wants the date code to match the year of the car.

Thanks guys. Bcoli from this forum graciously donated a 70 casting date head, it is sitting in Don's shop as we speak. The machine shop repaired our head and if it fails we have one in reserve which we will keep. The early heads also have the oil pressure switch that is mounted low as opposed to high at back of head, quite different. I just need to find time to assemble it, new Pistons, rings, bearings, balanced crank, polished flywheel, tensioner, chains, etc. Block just needs oil pump installed with chains and then timing cover. I've been working on cleaning the engine bay, will post pics in the other thread.
