3.0L “6”?

Hi all,

I’ve been restoring this e3 3.0L automatic for last 2 years. I came across these old pictures and what stood out to me was the “3.0L 6” emblem on the back, does anyone know what the 6 means? I think it’s just “new six” or the amount of cilinders. It does not look original, just like the 3 on the side of the fender. Anyways, I am sure someone in this forum knows more.

What does the L mean? Is it like a 740il which has an extended chasis?

The 2.8L, 3.0L and 3.3L have a 10cm longer chassis (no idea how much this is in inches )

One cool feature about the 3.3L is the crankshaft - in contrast to the other engines (also in contrast to the 3.3Li) it has 88.4mm lift. Nice to build a stroker engine.

Yes according to Nate Bargatze - How do you translate Centimeters to inches? "Nobody knows".
