72' 3.0cs original side & hood vent finishes...

Color?

This is my '70 2800 cs, 36,000 original kilometers and never restored. Metal grilles, don't know if they're made of aluminium or tin.

Francesco - is your car Tundra? I have a hard time telling from the photo, but it looks beautiful with the bright grilles.

excellent ! lovely discussion here, very interesting investigation, attention to detail, and search for the real history of what it was, up to some extent, a more handcrafted than industrial production

Fritz is already in jail with little access to ouside communication, so worthless to pursue this, in other case, useful witness

i got the point of what DerSchwede says, he has a reputation on history and facts of these old beauties, so probably he is right, the other gentlemen are probably right too, do not forget that there might be differences when pondcrossing...

as the wise Mr. Arde told me once: "what do you want, to get the parts or to win the discussion ?", i am definitively having the parts in my car installed, and they look awesome ! :smile:

BTW, anyone is in the need of a three year old set of chromed plastic grilles ? they are in excellent condition...

As to the food preferences, weisswurst, schweine axe mit sauerkraut und kartoffen puree und heffeweiss bier für mich, danke !:wink:
Bon jour, do you still have the chrome hood grilles for a 1972 3.0CS? If yes, please contact me, merci Phil

RIght. My 02/70-built 2800CS has metal hood grilles. I bought some new chrome grilles when they were still available (BMW parts), but they are plastic. Maybe I'll just re-chrome them and sell these plastic ones.

Thought this would be a good thread to post this observation.

I've just removed from my car the side grills, in line for fender removal.

One side has a bad fully chromed version; broken slats, cracked chrome it's going in the bin.

But the other side is interesting;
It has its 3 vertical support painted black. I have not read about that ever before. Now it could be a PO modification, but it is quite tricky to do and I expect only a stylist to come with this. Could the black be original?
The chrome of the horizontal grille parts is very cracked, but I can just make out that they have satin sides, and shiny chrome tops, which identify them as older, likely ~70's or 2800 model.
