Just picked up this running and driving 1972 Bavaria in Eastern Washington. Car was originally purchased in Utah, and lived its entire life in the Tri-Cities area until its recent 225 mile relocation to the other side of the mountains. Car was single owner (tons of documentation, diary, receipts, BMW CCA member) all the way through 2002 until it passed hands a few times until 2017 where it sat neglected.

Pretty stoked to dig and bring some life back into this old girl. The plan is to make it a sweet daily driver, keep it as original as possible w/in a reasonable budget, and eventually pass it onto one of my kids once they are old enough to drive (hopefully carbs are still legal by then).

Been busy the first couple of weeks with a full interior and exterior details, basic maintenance and waiting on new parts to refresh the obvious items. Seem to be having an issue with my turn indicator lamps, might have narrowed it down to a temperamental wheel stalk switch b/c I can get them to flicker when the stalk is at just the right spot. Thoughts? Red hazard button also has some challenges staying depressed, but can get it to stay.

Anyways, keen to get involved here on the forum and learn a lot from those with experience. Prost!

Given your car's history you are well on your way to a great car, more than a driver. Mine, also 72, drive it every week unless there is some PA Dept. Of Salt, not yet washed away. That's my much loved and mourned former mechanic's shop.

Congrats, welcome...what part of WA do you live, near CD'A, Idaho? Grew up in a Chamonix Bavaria w/ blue interior...Have fun with it! Wheels look good on it...don't see those every day.

Thanks All. Keen to get to know you through my many questions and answers. Apologies in advance! Finally got the basic fluids changed and fuel tank flushed out over the past week. Got to let 'er rip through the gears today, what a riot to drive.

CSteve - beautiful Bavaria you have there; neat color. Great looking mechanics shop too. Was it a former fire engine house?

Nachtycoupe - thanks for the welcome. Car lived its entire life in the Pasco/Richland area. I relocated it to Woodinville, WA . Still uncertain about those MSW '80s wheels. The original owner put them on the car in '83, but will enjoy them for now. Heck, if they are free they're for me.

The shop in the photo is actually an addition on the front of a 19th Century frame house. It was added by my mechanic's father, Anton, opened it as "repair shop" initially working on appliances, cars and whatever came through the door. The family lived upstairs, Richard started out sweeping the floors and and eventually took over the shop. He focused on German cars exclusively as he raced Porsches. Customers came from NY, NJ, PA, DE, MD, and CT.

We called him The Magician. He could do anything to a car.
