72CS on BAT

Yeah. Personally that is about what I would have bid… just because of the rust bubble on the rear quarter panel. I would have worried about opening it and finding more serious rust underneath.

The rockers look like good metal but there is evidence of prior repairs there. There are no pics of the subframe mounting point in that area because that is how it was lifted. Maybe if I was still in the market I would have asked for pics of the subframe point, and could have bid more if it looked really good?

No surprise really...although with the M30b35 motor I thought it would be worth more. I'm a big OG color guy on these minus a couple colors I won't mention to not piss off the owners that kept them OG.

It's not a bad color, just not my thing being non-BMW color. Canadian car might have played another part of it, well I'm sure it was. But...shows market for these coupes is still down tremendously. Good time to be a buyer! I thought I got a good buy, then I see all these going for way less...it will come around with inflation alone.

Enjoy them while you got them boys and girls. It's been in the 100's here in CD'A. After Thursday it should drop back to a more reasonable temp and early Fall is a great time for driving our beauties! Looking forward to airing it out again.

Well, in the end the value is what people are willing to pay. No regrets (although I should have sold it last year...). Again, thanks to the e9coupe forum for all the help over the years. I will be sure to suggest the buyer check out this forum. The car will remain in Canada and is going to a real enthousiast who seems to want to drive it more than anything else.

Unfortunately this is still not a good time to sell a coupe. After mine sold in late 2022 the bottom fell out as everyone with a needy coupe thought theirs were worth over $100K and they weren’t, they were only $40-50K coupes and that set the new benchmark. Now everyone is looking for a bargain and they are finding them, they just don’t realize that these coupes will need another $50K to make them mechanically and cosmetically sound.

well ... i like it when Hagerty tells us the market for our coupes is up ... but i don't do the work on my coupe as an investment, i do it because i love the car and want to own / drive it. PERIOD. now if i was buying a carb CSL or a Bat 1 or 2 ... then perhaps that is an investment, but that's what happens with the rare Porsche, Ferrari, etc. they have turned into investment opportunities. but when the market makes a significant correction, you could lose a lot. if you sell at the right time, with the right car - bliss. but what do they say about market timing? rare ability to get it timed right

I think that Hagerty's valuation tool is helpful generally, but should be informed by what we see in the marketplace. Remember that Hagerty's primary business is insurance and it is in their interest that we value our cars higher as that results in larger premium dollars for a risk that has very limited collision loss risk given how little we drive our cars.

I say the market is down because KirkVandezande never makes competitive bids, therefore demand is down, and other bidders think if KirkVandezande bid low, with all the knowledge he displays, then that is the value and they stop bidding.
I love the name though, it implies a church made of sand?

Close in spelling, but not really.
'Kirk' is a common first name, don't think it is a time-changed version of 'Kerk".

It reads to me to be of Dutch or Belgian (the Flemisch part) origin, but 'Kirk' isn't an church (which would be 'Kerk").
Vanderzande splits up into 'from the sand', and identifies much more a geographic origin, probably someone who lived in/close to a area covered with sand: dunes or beach or so.

Btw, I didn't follow the BAT sale, sorry.

Haha I was just discussing my Dutch name with Dirk de Groen, and here you are debating the finer points of the Dutch language… what is it with Dutch folks and E9s? I also recall seeing a discussion on here about how many members are over 6’ tall so I guess that tracks…

And hmmm, I just watched the Dutch GP this past weekend. I guess the neighbors who live next to Zandvoort could call themselves Vanderzande!

Exactly what I thought!
BTW, the Dutch accent when speaking English is just beautiful. Really enjoyable.

As the saying goes, "if you're not Dutch, you're not much!" LOL...my entire family from my Mom's side (which is quite large, Maiden name Evers) lives in Holland (minus my sister and I born here in the States). I was first generation born here and will. Dutch ancestry there goes so far back not sure where some of the previous ancestors came from? Dutch/(Scottish/Irish/English/Canadian Father's side) mutt here like most of us. Woof....
