'73 Bavaria for sale ...

D-jet is known for not being adjustable... How is it made to run on a 3.5L? Perhaps a special order ECU from Bosch back in the day?

BD,

GREAT info and NOT USELESS ... (that is pretty much the history I was told/pieced together, I just didn't have it all)

I remember Justin Poole ... did not know much about Tom, but you do ... THANKS !!!

Cars are all about "The Story" and this old car has a great story ... thanks for filling in the blanks !!!

The engine and carbs (with cold air box) went with the Privateer Race CSL I sold to Ron and Bill Kincaid along with a series 1 Bat a few years ago ... I transplanted the 3.5 ltr. (and I think this was a EURO only engine) from the Martini CSL Race car as it was not in "Race Livery" and not the correct engine at all ... but was VERY dependable and ran above average !!! (BTW ... hope you all saw the car at Historics last year ... Bill K. did a WONDERFUL job with the restoration of another "GREAT STORY")

Like I said ... car ran great ... when it cranked ... if you flooded it ... wait for a couple hours or cook a starter !!!

Folks that know me can tell you ... I used to have ZERO patience !!!

OMG would I love to go racing again ... maybe one day !?!?

Be Safe All, Jimmy B.

D-jet gets a bad wrap because of the way it depends on vacuum and traditional "hot" cams don't work... you can still make a big, strong, elastic D-jet street motor if you are aware of the cam limits. The old school cam and headers approach will not work.

With regards to 3.5ltr. DJet motors ... almost positive these were EURO only motors and never available in the US !!!

Somebody scold me if I'm wrong BUT almost positive Series 2 bats were 3.5 ltr. DJets !?!?

Thus the reason for "series 2" ... homologate the larger displacement engine along with the added brace for the rear wing !?!?

Maybe someone can enlighten me (never advertised myself as a MotorHead) but I own a "Car Tech" TWIN TURBO 3.0/3.2/3.5 Ltr. engine ... and the damned thing runs like a scolded dog !!!

No idea if it is still running Bosch ECU or not ... but it is Wonderful to drive !!!

Engine is in 2275 011 (original owner BMW Motorsport ... Richard Conway built and installed the engine years ago). I've never had the need to go into the engine but Richard always told me it was built with the best of the best internals ... low compression as was done in the day but high end crank and rods ... this bad boy will turn some RPM's !!

Can you imagine this engine with current engine management in these light cars !?!?
