73 cs hearing a noise when I push in my clutch pedal, sounds like a pop

okay time for the old fart to comment from the middle of the pool.

deQ, your advice is excellent but... nylon bushings are not meant to be lubricated. Yeah, I know we most all of us put "something" on them, but it will trap grit and lead to accelerated wear of the bushing. OTOH, "accelerated" might mean the part only lasts 20 years rather than a lifetime.

I was in there when I put the 4-speed, then the 5-speed in my coupe, and I probably greased them too, using whatever I had on hand at the time. So don't take me too seriously... these is not a mission-critical part or application.

I checked it further today it seems to onlty pop when its almost been pushed to floor..
its def in the pedal i can evn feel the pop through my foot..
how do i remove the black cover that seems to cover the clutch and under the steering wheel.. hard to see any spring other than pedal attached to some sort of bar..
any ideas

Thanks

check it again with your hand pressing the pedal and your head down there while using a torch

but my advice is first try to uonderstand the mechanism, it will be very difficult to go through this by "... pedal attached to some sort of bar..", the sort of bar is the master cyl rod !

i know it will be diffcilut to see from under the lower dash under the steering, but if you are not very skilled to dissasemble a little PITA, (the lower dash panel under the steering wheel is not easy to dissasemble, so if it is not required it might be better to work through a side opening)

yeah, it is probably better to look through the left dash cover ( the one you must open when you want to open the hood lever ),

you might do it this way: ask someone to seat in the driving place and push the pedal for you, you down in your knees from the outside looking through the mentioned underdash opening, that way you can witness the whole procedure, repeat againand againutil you can tell where the pop comes from

another reason to not dissasemble the lower dash is that when you do that you might change the position of the things down there and that might make the cause dissappear without knowing what was it

i am inclined to think now that the cause can be more in the rod to the cylinder side than in the pedal-spring-andsoon

you are right, ha, ha, ha
it seems like we have to pour oil or grease to everything !

No, it is not a crime scene. I had to use grease to troubleshoot it. Grease ruled out the spring and reduced the clutch squeak at the nylon bushing but it would somehow come back.

Harold removed the Master Cylinder, lubed the bore and linkages and now it is so quiet it is a pleasure to shift. Hope silence lasts.
