What are the odds that my CSL that left the factory May -73 (city package car) had the small spoiler on it as delivered?

Other cars I can get some info, e.g Porsche's COA listing Optional Equipment, but I don't think BMW has this info available today?

Every expert member I've consulted agrees that it looks to be OEM, with two easily replaced brackets gone missing, probably deliberately. It has the unobtanium correct rear spoiler roundel in 3d form. I'd like to run it on my CSL if it may have been factory delivered, otherwise not.

Opinions appreciated on chances it was on there, and any knowledge anyone may have as to when they were 1st available etc:

Yes he seems quite the expert on these cars in general. I got his input earlier via pm. He agrees it looks original, including hem (but in need or restoration) badge.

Question now for me is really more about odds of it being on the car from factory.

Hi Sean,
your (new) Trunklid has a perfect condition BMW roundel and the 3.0 CSL Badge. I would leave it like that. The chance that the original owner ordered the spoiler is 50/50. This spoiler could be ordered by anyone for any car, could also have been bought along the way.
Go for the clean look since you have a chrome bumper car/ city pack version which generally didn’t have the spoiler as opposed to the factory light versions. Besides, your new Alloy trunklid will have to be ‘molested’ to add the spoiler.

Lol, Gianni hopefully means con like ‘with‘ in italian rather than the con in English!

Agree with you 100% that I'm not putting holes in the perfect aluminum trunk.

The larger Batmobile spoiler was IN the trunk from BMW and installed by the owner/dealer due regulation issues. I assume no such issues existed for the smaller spoiler, but were they even factory mounted at all?

On this smaller spoiler, the 4-5 I've seen, I've seen consistency on the screws along the top edge (a not particularly esthetic solution) but have seen some weird mounting solutions along the rear edge, especially the corners. Wondering if there was a "factory way" with special screws/bolts, or the whole thing was somewhat jury rigged by owner/dealers.

This is ofcourse my take on the subject, there are many far more knowledgeable guys here who can surely shed more light......
The small ones were mounted by BMW if ordered on a new car. 4 screws on the top part and 5 at the bottom end from the inside of the trunk and into the spacers as seen in the pics. Today one would only stick it on (I used look alike screws not wanting to damage the Alloy trunk).

The large wing was only for the Bat’s, 110 first series and 57 second series cars found it the trunk. And that too only if the car was ordered with that spoiler package from factory. Those cars also had steel trunk lids to take on the added weight and the downforce created by the big wing. Apart from the big wing, the rest of the spoiler package (front spoiler, rear small spoiler and roof hoop, possibly also the wind splits) were found on non Bats too, via the factory depending on what configuration was ordered.
This black Bat Csl has a factory small spoiler and the large wing in the trunk......
