Hi,
Tried remounting (it was removed by previous own and from what I know now it was for good reason) the 73 front bumper only to find it looked terrible compared to my previous 72 euro e9.
Came right to the e9 forum and to my dismay I need to modify.
This requires my immediate attention!

Based on information supplied by many of you it looks like I need to change the brackets and end pieces only, correct?
It seems straight forward but want to make sure I am not missing anything.

I need:
Bumper end spacers
pre ' 73 - 51 11 1 811 180 qty2
Brackets
front left - pre'73 - 51 11 1 811 191
front right - pre '73 - 51 11 1 811 192

Does anybody have any of these items used???
If not, is W+N the best source?

Thanks

W&N or ebay.de (some times)

I concur, the 73 US bumpers just sticks out way too far for my liking.

I assume you looked up those part numbers on realoem and compared 73 numbers to 72?

Don, thanks.

Now, I have the definitive information. Just need a source for the brackets!
Does any one have just 1 of the brackets to send as a template?
That would be the best possible way to have one made.
I would return it and pay shipping both ways.

Replied to your PM. I can sell the rears or make a template. They aren’t complicated.

I’ve cleaned up my “radio testing e9 hood” since this photo but the spare bumper hasn’t moved.

I will pm about the rear brackets. If I am going to make the front look 'right' I should not go half way and leave the rear bumper.

Oh no Markos....... They told me everything is ok now and if I have a problem with them I should try Turner or Pelican Parts.

Don, are you saying the rear pre 73 brackets are $65.90?
I called them on the front brackets and they say around $580 each.
Do you have a link for that part?
Thanks

1973 bumpers, when done correctly (see HBChris's car) look great. Still elegant and to my eye, not obtrusive nor do they stick out too far. The challenge is getting the parts. I have a 1973 but at one point a prior owner swapped 1972 bumpers. They look fine BUT, maybe that is why HBChris and I fought for 2 hours trying (successfully) to install them after the repaint.
Thanks again Chris!

Definitely like the tight fit look. Did not know of the difference until I tried to re-install the front bumper that was removed by the previous owner. Thought I was installing it incorrectly until I reviewed the forum. Now I am working on the change over along with airdam install.

I realize that I was looking at the wrong part numbers when talking to ECS even after Don graciously provided the correct part numbers ;)
Rob- thanks for the clarification. Parts ordered.
$225 just for the parts to make the change to the front bumper! Guess I better get used to it! (spending money on this addiction)

Even after looking at realoem, I didn't believe these were the brackets. They are usually noted as "spring clips" and that doesn't sound like a bumper bracket to me. But upon this thread, and after reviewing the realoem diagram again, I guess these are it. Now, whether or not ECS actually has them is another story... Thanks for posting!

I will let you know if I receive the correct parts. Or if they even ultimately send me the correct all the parts I ordered.;)

I think the ‘73 rear bumper looks just fine. The front bumper can spur some questions but it looks fine also.

Sooooo... This is the second time this week that I have highlighted my e9 ignorance in a post. The first being on BAT.

The rear bumper brackets are welded to the bumper. That would explain why you may not find a part number. That also explains why I won’t be selling mine. The bracket is still rather simple, but it does have a slight bow do it to match the body line. I wouldn’t try to replicate that. Once of my spares is rusted out in the middle, but still functional/repairable.

The fact that you would need to weld them on means that you would need to fabricate this change before rechroming. It’s a lot of work for a half inch or so. It would probably be easier to modify the ‘73 brackets.
