guys,

Charles has finished putting his coupe back together and has placed his '73 verona up for sale.

there are plenty of money shots on a lift, and i have been completely underneath this car and find the descriptions of the minimal pin-holes of rust to be accurate. there are many new parts - both trim and braking systems. this coupe does have a strong engine - i think the listing may be incorrect in the b35 notation - i thought it was a b34, but i could be incorrect, i didn't look at the engine numbers or the ECU ... but it is NOT an anemic version if it is a b34 ... it is a strong engine. it does have a close ratio (dogleg) 5 speed.

there are plenty of good photos on the link of this for this listing. i hope this coupe finds a good home. happy to talk to anybody that is interested ... its not my car, and i have no affiliation with the sale of it.

i have sent the request on to Charles and will post back once i have the info. Don, i had very little to do with this, nothing more than some advanced finger pointing, a little part sourcing and a little evaluation early on. Charles is an e30 m3 racing guy that i have known for over 10 years - he's a guy who believes in doing things right.

Beware, or Beweird?

The black paint under the bumper line "looks weird" and could be cause of concern. If it's a "taste thing"........... O.K, .....But why would you do that if you weren't
trying to hide or fix something. Very nice car though. IMHO, the right front fender MAY not match (O.K., does not match). The front "bumperettes" upside down (easy fix). Everybody knows that I don't know nuttin'......... just sayin'.

Pretty sure those downward dagmar bumperettes as correct for 1973....

i can help you with this one ... it was a taste thing. the previous owner painted a lot of the trim black and the rockers and lower valances black. the electric antenna mast, the hood + fender grilles and wiper arms were all refinished in black. i have seen all 4 ends of the rocker panels and the inner fenders (up close and personal) and i didn't see any rust creeping out of any surfaces.

the front bumperettes are not upside down - its a 73.

right front fender? typically the right front fender is the passenger fender ... not sure what you are seeing ... please expound.

I am seeing the same issue. It is noticeable in all of the first 4 photos, particularly in the 3rd and 4th photos. Look at the passenger-side front fender, where it meets the passenger door. The red paint does not appear to match.
 
i never noticed that in person - i can't tell you if that is a reflection or a paint color change. i noticed on one of the drivers side images that there was a reflection of a light that made the door change colors (mid door). in one of the passenger pix i see the light reflecting in the paint ... and on the stone wall across the car i see a distinct difference in the color of the stone.

i'm not telling you that it does or doesn't actually exist ... just that i didn't notice it in person.

that's what i like about taking pictures of a car on grass (under sunlight) or on a neutral color palette.

Hi all. Thanks to Scott for his trusted presentation of the car here and all his help acquiring parts and determining what needed to be done. Also thanks to all of you guys on the Forum who helped me with parts and advice as well.

Here's the story: First of all, yes, the front right fender has been painted. And no, it does not match perfectly. Additionally it appears that the front drivers fender was replaced before the car was repainted more than 25 years ago.

I bought the car from my friend who purchased it in 1992 from a man in New Mexico. I believe I am the fourth owner. The car had been painted in NM prior to my friend buying it and the tasteless blackout job had been done at the time (no, it is not there to hide something). I have reversed some of the blackout with new grillwork, mirrors and trunk badge. I have photos of the car in 1992 showing the fresh paint with the black and have tried to attach here but I can't make it work. I will see if Scott can throw the photos up for me.

When my friend bought it it was shipped to him in Atlanta and shortly after getting it he had the power train transplant done by well known Atlanta BMW tech Phillip Bowman (since passed away from cancer, RIP Phillip). Phillip installed a 3.5 liter motor "built to euro 535i spec" (my friends words) and the Getrag dogleg 5 spd. Very shortly after the motor was installed my friend retired to St Simons Island Ga and took this car, his euro 635csi and a few others with him...oh yeah, his wife was invited too.

The car has been on St. Simons for the past 20 plus years and has covered less than 1000 miles since my friend acquired it also meaning that the rebuilt 3.5 is just broken in. This is believable as the island is only 12 miles long and never left until I bought it about 3 years ago. When I bought it it had been sitting in my friends airplane hanger for about 4 years. I trailered it back to Atlanta where it was stored in my warehouse for 2 years before I started to work on it to get it back on the road last year.

The car as stated in the ad is a great drivers car. It is very smooth and makes a ton of power. It is a car you can enjoy, leave in a parking lot without the use of a defibrillator, and hang on to without any future looming rust repair work needed. I have spent thousands in brakes, hydraulics, fuel line replacement, fuel tank restoration, chrome, trim, detailing, etc. The cars presentation is a solid nine and a half footer. If the wood was restored, some small cosmetics addressed and a new paint job applied it would be stunning.

I'll keep an eye out here for other questions but please address any conversations and or negotiations to the guys at Motorcar Studio. Chris and Nick there are great guys and very knowledgable.

Sorry, it is totally new to me. Heard of one in Santa Fe but never could confirm, may be the car.
 
History

Yep, before that, always liked them, started with a 81 528i and haven't stopped. Wife totaled that car with a headon with a trash truck in Plano, Tx, and she only had a broken nose, no seat belt on, and we were very lucky and thankful. Quote from the wifey, love the BMW, no issues from now on.....lucky me. LOL
